My friend and I decided to record some short compositions. The goal here is to deliver a complete idea around 1 minute mark. Here's what we've come up with so far:

You certainly have packed in plenty into one minute in the first piece. Powerful and complete.
The second one has great lush themes and lovely playing.
The third one has all the requisite sounds for a dark encounter. Harpsichord and organ are cool. Well done.
Have you ever listened to the residents 'Commercial Album'. 40 one minute songs... :)
Bandcamp
Music with progressive intent.

I liked Harpsichord & Orchestra, but all was cool.

I enjoyed all three and you clearly know your music very well indeed.

All create a strong mood that would work in trailers or short films and things like that.

I have been around for a long time (80 years +) and they are very samey and generic in some ways - I have heard these styles many time before. Very good, but not very original for me.

Piano playing - you play smoothly and very musically, clearly a trained pianist. However that sometimes means that you put too much in there just because you can. I would like more restraint and less fast tempo rippling piano - too much for me sometimes.
Jazz Clarinet Rocks - well sort of Swings anyway!

Thanks a lot Allomerus. No, I haven't listened to this album at all. I didn't even know about this. I'll definitely check it out. Thanks for the tip!

Yeah, it's a good combination. It makes it easy to come up with a Frenkenstein type of sound!

Thanks a lot for your valuable feedback. I couldn't agree with you more! You're right about the piano part for sure.

I listened to the 3 most recent compositions. I liked Spooky Halloween the best. I thought it was on par with Danny Elfman's work. Great job!

That's a big fat compliment Frantz. Thanks!

If this is what 'The Residents Album' is all about, then you're absolutely right. I have done some experimental works (mostly with acoustic instruments), but it's never been my primary focus. I like it but I don't love it. It's just not me, but that's how music works. It takes ALL of us and more to cover all genres.

Nice idea! I've dabbled with 1 minute pieces myself a few years ago. One of them happened sort of by design as it was for a short film and had a specific length it had to be (I think it was like 62 seconds or so). I still think that it's my best composition todate. It has a beginning, an easy to understand theme and a pretty clever way of ending (if I may say so myself), all within a minute.

Would it be okay to post it here? EDIT: Would it be okay if I stole your 1 minute idea and created my own thread? :) I really should be getting back into composing and these short "stories" are a great way to get into composition when tight on time.

Awesome playing by the way! I really like the 2nd piece (Waves of hope). Love how it ends sort of on a question mark.. how it just fades into the ether of consciousness. Well done sir!
