Cannot locate the GA-xxxxxx
model number for Gigabyte Z390 Designare

need to check the Noctua D15 compatibility
https://noctua.at/en/nh-d15/comp
It seems it is ok but want to know for sure.
May need the number for other matters perhaps.

I, like many other people, just wish Noctua would stop using their ugly brown fans :hihi:

How about the Gray ones? Some of the Redux range are low noise.

People say it makes no difference for audio stuff.
Jesus... :o has CAS latency really gotten that bad in RAM these days??!
14-14-14-34 timings seems horrible compared to what I built 6-7 years ago. My old HyperX 16GB DDR3 runs at 9-9-9-27.
Win 10 | Ableton Live 11 Suite | Reason 12 | i7 3770 @ 3.5 Ghz | 16 GB RAM | RME Babyface Pro| Akai MPC Live II & Akai Force | Roland System 8 | Roland TR-8 with 7x7 Expansion | Roland TB-3 | Roland MX-1 | Dreadbox Typhon | Korg Minilogue XD

As the clocks get higher, CAS gets longer as well. What really matters is CAS/MHz ratio.

Also keep in mind the whole CPU architecture is aimed at hiding memory latency.

WARNING!
For audio works you do not want a motherboard with PLX chip(higher latency).
You do not want the ASUS WS Z390 Pro and SuperMicro C9Z390-PGW. :uhuhuh:

BTW, he forgot to mention the Gigabyte Z390 DESIGNARE with build-in Thunderbolt
ports and the VRM +- the same as the Gigabyte Ultra/Pro/Elite. :tu:

So Gigabyte Z390 Designare does not have this PLX ?

How can I quick and easy see if a motherboard got PLX, or not,.. ?

AsRock Z370 Extreme4 ,.. should be a nice overclocker ,.. and it now got support for 9900K

Since latest USB, and the other Bells and Whistles of the Z390 is not that important to me I consider to give the AsRock a try

Any opinions here ?

No PLX.

The Z390 has 24 lanes https://www.anandtech.com/show/13135/mo ... et-exposed
Can support one GPU at 16x
Can support two GPUs at 8x + 8x
Can support three GPUs at 8x + 4x + 4x

So, if a Z390 motherboard supports 2 GPUs at 16x + 16x, then it uses a PLX chip.

Seems like with proper airflow around the VRM heatsinks it can stand the i9900K, but I wouldn't call it a nice overclocker... :uhuhuh:
