I've got about a hundred or so XT2 skins that I've done. Most for 2.6 but a few for 2.7. Might even work in later versions as well. I use mostly 2.6 these days anyway when I use XT.

There will be a million variations (technically), but really, any one that had anyone of my skins before that lost them, or saw ones they liked but didn't get hold of, will find them somewhere in this pack. I'll try to get it done by xmas.

I've even got some faves that I've used exclusively for myself. A refinement after going crazy on the whole thing. Everything will be included. It won't be more than a few Megs download all in all.

I'll probably end up including a few that don't belong to me, that I used as inspiration. Hopefully we can sort that all out later. Fellow skin makers have usually been nothing less than magnanimous. If nothing else, it will be a tip of the hat. It will be a right mess.

Probably a couple of hundred. But I'll include the original KVR ones I first gave out, so you should find it easier to find something if you originally had it.

Some of them work pretty good with XT3 as well. In fact, you can mix and match due to the new structure for including knobs and faders. I'll include all the knobs and faders, and you can even rip them and use them for your own stuff if you like them. Remind me to include the Knobmaster files as well.

That's the idea.

I'll try to do a few screen shots of the ones I've ended up using the most over the years.

I'm sorry I haven't got around to this. I'll do it soon.

I had a quick look and was just about to dump them all then realised I have at least half as much again on an old computer and drive. Sorry about that.

If I can't do them all in one go, I'll just do what I have on my drive now, and the other stuff later. I know where it is. Just digging it out...

It'll be a mess. But it should be everything. I won't be making or doing any more.

Apologies.

I do have a couple of really nice and different themes though that I haven't given out. Maybe I'll try and screenshot, but probably you'll just have to dig through. It'll be a mess. But we're at the end of the road with this one, unfortunately.

i´m interest. ( yeah it seems there´s no more road for xt, so im interest to keep everything xt related, even now we can still find xt stuff (information, etc) but i guess in a few years everything´s gone)

Found some old files on a usb stick from about 7 years back. I was trying to replicate the Akai themes I'd seen at the time. This one looked good on the machine I was working on tonight, so I tweaked it a bit. I'll get around to uploading the rest of the xt themes soon (ish). I haven't forgotten about it.

This is for XT2.6, but it should work on other versions as well.

Just downloaded XT3 to see how it looks. Seems ok to me -(o_O)-

Needs a couple of tweaks for clarity, but works alright.

UPDATE:

For anyone who just downloaded that zip file, please dl it again as I included the 7 year old original theme and it's messed in parts (file and drop down menus). It's working properly now.

Here is the original theme fixed up:

It's just a little bit darker, but the menus work now (they were unreadable before).

I've got a load more variations on this Akai theme and I'll include them when I do the dump. I just thought I'd mess about with this one as it looked pretty cool on this new touch screen I'm on.

[EDIT-2]

Some more minor variations on a theme:

(this zip includes a few more colour schemes)

UPDATE 2:

I made up a new theme in XT3 (I never use it) and to my surprise it loads perfectly well in XT2.6 (what I usually use). YMMV...

(This zip file contains all 16 variations that seem to work in both XT3 and 2.6 - the XT3 themes are labeled as such.)

Experimenting on a win10 x64 test machine, so been giving XT3 a bit of a spin. Seems solid.

Did a few more skins for the hell of it. Did them in XT3 today - they seem to work on 2.6 fine though. I don't have any other versions to test as I'm not at home. There's a couple of things that are different obviously, but it works. It translates pretty well on the whole.

Anyway, wanted to do an Fxpansion inspired Cypher theme for XT. Not sure if I succeeded. This is my attempt:

Image

https://ibb.co/j5SZAA

Then I worked a bit more on the standard XT colour scheme that I started yesterday, to take advantage of new features available in XT3 (the EQ colour graph):

Image

https://ibb.co/kK0Xxq

Image

I went a bit wild with the next one just experimenting, I know, but I liked the results I got yesterday so worked on it a bit more today:

Image

https://ibb.co/kyFAiV

Image

Then I tried to do an Fxpansion Tremor/Geist inspired skin and failed miserably. But I did end up with this:

Image

There's over 40 skins in this new zip file, which are variations on a handful of themes. There's a lot of redundancy and some stuff that needs to be finished off, but they kind of work ok in both versions of XT. Because of the bold colours used they would make a good set of templates for anyone wanting to learn about skinning in XT2/3.

It's not too difficult to just open the editor and work out what goes where. It's fairly logical, even though even now I spend an hour trying to find something to see where it fits. You can copy or do what you want with these skins. Feel free to reupload them, no permission needed. I will get around to sharing the rest of what I have at some point as well (including some pretty cool knobs for XT2.7).

Here's the new zip file (it includes all the previous skins I've linked in the last few posts):

I did a few more updates, some big some small.

The 'Cypher2' skin got a few changes (my first ever Green skin):

https://ibb.co/mAysFA

The 'Golden' skins are me just working out the fine details and keeping all the versions to look at later. I did a load of them, so you may want to skip those.

There's 64 variations in there now. I don't call it a 'dump' for nothing!

Hi codec_spurt!
Guess I waited too long for akai-themes_9 :?
Your links to filedropper locations are not valid anymore.
Seems they're having some self-destroying algorithms there.
Any chance you could upload them again?
And - if it would be okay for you - I would make them (or at least some variations of them) available on http://energyxt2.wikidot.com/looks
Thanks for your work!

Another little update.

Just playing about with some new features of the skinning in v3 (object bar), tidying up some old skins (highlited notes same as others - not good) that I messed up. All pretty ad-hoc really. Experimented a bit with some other stuff.

Mostly small details here and there. Things that annnoy me when I'm working on a track and I decide to dive in and change it. Jorgen has added new features and changed some things around with the versions from 2.6 to 2.7 to 3 as well and they weren't really apparent. Especially after having a gap of some years inbetween doing them.

I said I wasn't going to do any more skins/themes but I had some time to kill and it's almost relaxing to mindlessly play about. Quite surprised that you can interchange between the different versions without too much mayhem.

Took a while to remember how to change the knobs in 2.7 as well - it's not intuitive. I included a handful of different types and a couple of faders. I'm glad he reverted to the older version setup in v3 though - it's more streamlined.

I've named some with the version of XT I was using them with, but you don't have to limit yourself to a specific version.

Version 3 has been pretty stable for me here on this test box of a win10 machine. Apart from loading an xt2 project in xt3 and it nearly blowing up my speakers/ears. When XT does THAT, it's the most horrific noise ever. It used to do it when resizing audio files as well sometimes. Or slicing them, IIRC.

None of the versions are perfect, but I've just cut my losses and stuck with 2.6 pretty much. I know its limitations and bugs that affect me. I was surprised it worked so well on win10 though. I need to get XT1 set up on here and see how that plays out. Lots of tracks for that too.

Ah well. It's still working ok, so can't say I haven't got my money's worth out of it. Computer games, eh?

XT is pretty nifty as a VSTi plugin, and that not being developed is one of the biggest blows of all with this sorry affair, but that older plugin - was it version 2.54 that was the last one? It still kind of works ok. It will even load projects from later versions as well IIRC. But I couldn't find a download for that on the XT page. Couldn't get the ReWire plugin to work either on this particular system.

As an alternative I got Kushview Element for a good price in the BF sale and that's really impressive as a chainer/mini-host. High hopes for its future.

I think even now if Jorgen decided to pull his finger out people would still be interested. Massive untapped potential still there. Not gonna happen I know.

Never mind, looking forward to playing with my new version of Cubase, for those times of wanton nostalgia and drifting down memory lane... and then coming stylishly in to the 21st Century. If they ever get rid of the dongle I'll buy a full copy. Elements is enough for now for me though. Its limitations don't really bother me.

I use about 7 or 8 DAWs on a regular basis. I probably don't know them as inside out as someone who just focuses on one or two, but it's a workflow that works for me. You do spend more time setting things up (and it's more expensive), but there is usually a way to do the thing you want to do buried somewhere in there in all the options.

I'm still loving REAPER, and I'm very impressed with Samplitude Pro X. I'm very happy as well with the Magix customer support as well - top notch. Tracktion is really going in a fun and exciting direction too. Ableton is indispensable on several levels. FLStudio is still something of a masterpiece. I've been using the new reworked Directwave Sampler in all my hosts and it's working great although it hasn't been officially released yet (just extract the .dll from the install). Beautiful work and very stable so far. It might be the only sampler you need. You do need to have bought the 3rd party external version for it to work though.

But when it comes to DAWs:
If I had to choose just one? At the moment it would be Presonus. Studio One is just getting better and better. Just upgraded to v4. It's more streamlined and nippier than Cubase, and just enough gadgets and 'toys' to keep it interesting and fun without being distracting. It even seems pretty stable so far too. I might even get the Atom controller for it. Cubase has already 'poofed' a few times in so many weeks. But that is going along a solid path right now as well.

Anyway, excuse my little ramble. Back to XT - the layout of the skin editor is pretty logical for the most part. XT1 editor was buggy, yet there seems to be more 'pro' quality skins for it. There's some great skins for XT2 too I know, but I thought there'd be more (as it's easier to do). Maybe people aren't sharing, who knows. XT1 is a labour of love to do, so I think people are more inclined to spread their work and 'show off' a bit what they've done.

Another thing about XT:
XT2 is still the fastest host known in existence for VST testing though. I don't think it does any checks at all, but it's no less stable for it. It just reads the file/tree structure as it would any other file, and then just loads it. There are a couple of bugs, but no show-stoppers. On the whole, there's not a DAW in existence that can touch it. And that's one of the main reasons I keep going back to it.

Jorgen is an exceptional coder, but he's Mercurial and capricious, for sure. For example, note how he just played about with the GUI and the Render button shortcut. He moves it from version to version and now has totally erased it in v3. Why? There is masses and masses of GUI real estate there to plop it in or just leave it where it was. But no, he just deletes it and now you have to click a couple of times more with the mouse on the file system.

No method in the madness there, that I can find. It makes no difference to me any way as I use shortcuts, but it wouldn't have hurt to have kept it there somewhere.

Enough of going back down that road. Didn't mean for this to turn in to a disquisition, but there ya go!

If you're still alive, here's the new theme pack (contains everything so far in this thread and more - so this is the only one you need):

Filedropper is just a quick and dirty uploader. I'm just being lazy and should use something else. Feel free to reupload wherever, or share however. No problem.

I'll get around to something better later when I dig out those other older skins.

And if you want to take the time to sort the wheat from the chaff, by all means pick out what you like.

Like I said, this is just a dump of them all (at the moment). I don't have the time or the inclination to sort through them. Just thought I'd share what I've done and others can decide what they want to use.

Much appreciated, I like them and think it is nice to have some to switch depending on mood. Long time since I last uploaded looks to the energyXT2 wikidot, but I think it will be possible to just upload the whole package there - which is what I would prefer, so that everyone interested (how many would this be these days I ask myself from time to time - especially when I read about DAWs here at KVR and energyXT never gets mentioned anymore at all) could just chose from all.

Edit:
Now the themes are available here as a whole package: http://energyxt2.wikidot.com/look:xt-themes-package
