It's the point before the gets batshit crazy, although the slower stuff still tends to be cheaper.

2666MHz is the offical rated memory controller speed on intel Z390 series chips.
3200MHz is the prefered opperating clock speed for the Zen chips, but then it's a different type of memory system in there.
Wow. I was so wrong about this.
So try to get the 3200 so I have overhead but run it at 2666 at first for stability. Does this make sense?
or just get the 2666 and save the money. I have $250 or $300 allotted for RAM but nothing wrong with saving money. What to do. RAM is my final purchase and unfortunately other matters have popped up that demand my attention so have less time to select the RAM. Such is life!

No, it makes no sense. Just get the 2666! It's cheaper, is in spec, and you seriously will hardly notice a difference between 2666 and 3200 in your DAW/plugins.

The preferred RAM clock speed for ZEN is as fast as it can be with the lowest timings, not 3200Mhz.

Ok got the message loud and clear to get the DDR4-2666 32GB in two sticks!
Having a hard time finding it in the approved RAM list for under $300.
So I searched out side the list and found this.

CPU i9-9900k
Gigabyte - Z390 AORUS MASTER ATX LGA1151 Motherboard
https://www.gigabyte.com/us/Motherboard ... -rev-10#kf

Found this RAM but it is not on the approved list.
Everyone seems to like G.SKILL Ripjaws
What is your opinion on the F4-2666C15D-32GVR?
I am open for suggestions.

This is only $20 cheaper than the other(faster/tested) I mentioned.

You are buying a TOP motherboard/CPU, why economize $20 with the RAM?

2x16 I agree ,... but I would still go for good 3200 or maybe 3000 speed, decent cas,..

Where I live the diffrence in price seems to get close to zero lately, like 5-7 pct on best deals, and when I use local pricerunner, (in general)

These few pennyes are well worth the better chances to re-use in later builds, expand with more sticks, or sell them for at better price in the last end IMHO

I have plenty of useless ram lying around becouse I got them in a bit to slow version back then, to save 5-10 pct

Ang guess what, they are worth almost nothing if I try to get rid of them now 1-2 years later :-)

Ok got the RAM!
Could not find 32GB Approved RAM that defaulted to 2666MHz so got
the Corsair 32GB 3200MHz CMK32GX4M2B3200C16r. "r" for red.
https://www.corsair.com/eu/en/Memory-Si ... M2B3200C16

Did not check if ECC, Un-Buffered! double sided and dual channel and if supports 2666MHz without XMP. But it was on the Memory Support List so hope it will be ok.

Thanks to all for help.

Without being an expert:

To me it seems a good build, as loong as the PCIe buss is not multiplexed with chip for 2x16-use, (have not checked out the board)

I like the rams are 2x16 and 3200 like said, being relatively low-profiled also is also an advantage, at least for later builds, some rams are so high they confict with a low aircooler

Yor supply is likely overkill in wattage but allows you to add one or two GTX1080ti in the future if you work with fx Resolve or Premiere

Dont expext any mad overclocks though, the chip is pushed hard default, but definalely I would try to rise the clock a little bit

The board needs to support OC well also, like the voltage-regulators up to the game and so on

I would go for custom water if any serious clock was intended, and a heavy stand-alone radiator if it was used for hours of rendering on top-speed

But the again, for serious video I would likely go Threadripper on a dedicated machine

But 9900K seems the thing for audio right now

Both Kaine @ Scan Pro and Jim @ Studiocat said that it can push all 8 cores to 5 Ghz on air without much effort.

Thats what I call a little clock :-) depends on your skills, MB; and the exact cpu you got, as far as I remember overclockers.co.uk sells selected 9900K chips, for 4.9, 5.0, and 5.1 in case you whant to be sure to reach a certain level, for that there is a price, or the option to depend on good luck :-)

https://www.overclockers.co.uk/intel-co ... 6d-in.html

Personally I would just pick what ever good offer and settle with 4.8 or 4.9 needed be

The devil is in the last little bit of speed

I just built my new studio PC as well. Still testing and tweaking and I haven't even touched any OC settings yet but coming from i7 920 the difference is pretty huge :)

I went with these:
CPU: i9 9900k
MoBo: AsRock Taichi Ultimate
RAM: 32GB G.Skill Ripjaws V
Cooler: BeQuiet Dark Rock Pro 4
Graphics: ASUS GTX 1060 6GB
Case: Fractal Design Define R6

Hard Disks:
Boot/Programs: Samsung M2 970 EVO 1TB
Projects/Audio: Samsung M2 970 EVO 500GB
Samples 1: Samsung SSD 850 EVO 500GB
Samples 2: old fashioned WD 3TB 7200rpm drive (will be replaced with SSD at some point)

Also had to get an extra Firewire card for connecting my Focusrite Saffire DSP 24. Thunderbolt would have been an option but Firewire was cheaper and probably more foolproof solution.

i just upgraded from my 10 years old phenom II x4 955 to intell i9 9900k/64gb 3200 and to be honest i should rather go with 16core threadripper...it is not very quick i would say as i thought todays cpu will be,,,,not sure why people are so impressed,,,the only advantage is i do not need graphics card in my pc as i am not a gamer....
