SampleTank 4 on the way

Ha! I think I figured it out a little. Maybe my snarkyness directed at IK wasn't clear and it found its way to you. My fault.
Also, yeah, I will edit my previous post to say something like crossgrade vs an upgrade path to maybe make it clearer.
I just tend to not like the passive insults that happen too frequently on these boards - see the Best Synths of 2018 Thread...
Lets spiritually cheers a double of Johnnie Black, make some music, and hope that the oceanic ambient albumI am working on finally gets me signed to Geffen Records.

Green label son? Elitist jerk.
Kidding!
Blue and green are great - I haven't tried the white yet. Honestly, I cannot stand gold. I have had it numerous times - duty free is a treat - but i usually end up giving it away.
Back on topic - If IK threw in a bottle of Laphroaig 18 in with the purchase, I might consider it...

IK is such a strange company.
On the one hand, they have some revolutionary (in my view) products like Modo Bass, which I think is terrific.
On the other hand, they pull "customer service" nonsense like not publishing the list of SampleTank 4 instruments (which obviously they have) because...? Who knows? Spite?
The two-sided nature of their company is just bizarre.

It's not bizarre at all. I used to work for General Dynamics. I heard this saw from several competitors over the years ...SirkusPi wrote: Wed Jan 02, 2019 10:18 pm IK is such a strange company.

If you don't think their approach is effective, you aren't paying attention. You may not like it. But it works.

I agree, this is really strange. I like ST3, but I don't know what is the 70GB newly recorded content, seems like they package the old content as well. Which is okay, if you have recorded a nice instrument with a nice microphone, that will keep sounding great, but I don't see the reason yet to upgrade. Maybe after I saw the first youtube videos, or tried the SampleTank 4 custom shop version, I can make a decision.

Scratching my head to figure out how Sampletank 4, and it's impending release, bear any resemblance to the Aerospace and Marine industries? If you are trying to say we are mushrooms, keep us in the dark and feed us shit, and by all means feed us ST4 - then sure, I get that.SJ_Digriz wrote: Wed Jan 02, 2019 10:46 pmIt's not bizarre at all. Meanwhile, no, IK is not denying users a list out of spite. They are building interest due to curiosity and buying themselves some time whether or not extend preorder pricing. I think some of us would like to hear some more sounds, sounds of instruments soloed - strings, bass, horns, synths, guitars, etc. rather than song context. Maybe some will sound worse. If some thought ST3 was a dog, maybe they think ST4 is a dog with different/bigger fleas. I'm not calling either one a dog, necessarily, but plenty of cats not impressed with ST3.
For me, personally, need more solo sounds, and a list including comparison of different versions, listing instruments and articulations up through max and vice-versa. Does IK piss customers off with loyalty pricing and/or other issues? Sure. But here's to hoping ST4 lives up to all of its hype.

We are also continuing to tweak (and add where possible) so a list would not be final. However, I received word that a list should be coming soon. The per-order pricing ha also not ended so there's a little more breathing room. I will keep you posted.

Come on, it wasn't that vague. There are companies that make things. There are companies that know how to wring the $$ out of the things they make. The entire IK approach to marketing, sales, upgrades/crossgrades, pricing is consistently obfuscated. If that obfuscation resulted in crappy sales, they would quit. There is no need for anyone to actually posts questions and complaints. You can just save everyone a bunch of time and cut/paste any IK release announcement thread into this one. It's like groundhogs day.musicalwarmth812 wrote: Thu Jan 03, 2019 7:04 am Scratching my head to figure out how Sampletank 4, and it's impending release, bear any resemblance to the Aerospace and Marine industries? I pre-ordered MAX in December. AFAIK, "download" was the only option for the upgrade from ST3, etc. Given the size of this thing (250 GB!) is there a thumbdrive option available at all? If so, is it too late for me to update my order? Is there an up-charge for doing so?
Thanks

The USB option is listed on the site. I changed my order via a support ticket. I'd think you could do the same. I don't remember there being a price difference.BERFAB wrote: Thu Jan 03, 2019 3:26 pm I pre-ordered MAX in December. I just went and checked out the thread from about a year ago where we were jotting down FRs for ST4 and then Peter popped in and dropped the hint that ST4 was in progress. I had made a list of things I'd like to see. Although I can't say to what degree I will like the implementation, they seem to have hit all the boxes except scripting and consistent effect UIs.
-sizeable UHD friendly interface
-update the library browser system
-streaming (although there are multiple parts to this like purged load ... we'll see)
-sample import
-Controller Mapping .. this looks to be MIDI Learn, not a one time macro knob learn interface like KK though.. depending on how quick parameters works.
-extended articulations and mapping
-more workflow conscious "band in a box" interface (it looks like the convoluted/inconsistent effects chain is still there though)
Anyhow, after reviewing my wish list and the one on the IK forum it looks like they covered the majority of user requested features.

Ah, so I understood you perfectly. There is no "need" for anyone to post questions or complaints, and for that matter, or to buy Sampletank 4. But hey, look at that, this is a forum thread about ST4 - why would people do that? If you are trying to point out the obvious, that many of the questions and complaints are an exercise in futility, then bravo, well done.SJ_Digriz wrote: Thu Jan 03, 2019 3:16 pmCome on, it wasn't that vague.
