Europa VST is great to program, versatile, sounds good and is light on CPU. Same with Go2, which is very quick to get moving, dynamic sounds.

Bitwig's Phase-4 or Live's Wavetable are quite powerful, although the latter is (unjustifiably so, IMO) CPU hungry.

For me its Cypher2... the long awaited and announced synth with a scalable GUI and rich, analog sound.
Can't agree more - nothing comes close to the warm analog sound of this one. Also the presets bundled with that one are insane... 700 patches and almost of all them have 3 built-in extra controls.

Thorn has very quickly become my go-to and, little by little, I am replacing a lot of other things that weren't quite working with it. We were joking before Xmas that we could easily do a whole album using nothing else if we wanted, such is the amount of new ideas it has sparked.

Where was this list published? I didn't see it in the magazine - was it in the December issue?

Thorn was released in October 2017, though. But perhaps their cutoffs are different due to magazine lead time.

For hardware synths, the Sequential Prophet X is at the top of my 'to buy' list. I had a chance to play with one at the DSI headquarters and it was amazing. So flexible!

The prices of those things here in Australia makes them ridiculous. I could buy an Elektron Analog Keys, a Digitakt sampler and a Korg Prologue 16 for the price of a Prophet X.
