First, sorry for the off topic. Taking VAT into account is different from charging VAT from the customer when making the online purchase. What I mean is, if you are located in EU and buy from the USA, often you don't see added VAT in your online purchase; when you are charged zero VAT, the VAT portion will usually be handled when the goods arrive to the target country.

in my part of the world they have started adding state taxes to the online purchases (which they didn't used to do), and it surprised me when repro cost me 200$ USD.

I don't know what PA was thinking but I'm confident in saying Dmitry was not thinking "screw everybody".
Stefken wrote: Fri Feb 08, 2019 3:16 pm Yet, we do know that the violation of personal data has to be attributed to Dmitry as he was the one that had the data.
I'm sorry you are so triggered. I think you're kind of overreacting about the data. Did you reply to Dmitry's email since he asked for feedback ?

As for the email here it's my address that I use for music related stuff not my personal email I use for business, banking, etc.

So not a huge deal it got shared....again........

By the way Belarus in not in the European Union so their laws may not apply.

This was just an unfortunate series of events that could have been thought out and handled much better. Not a deliberate attack on your liberty........

How is that supposed to work when you pay the online store with a payment service which accounts for VAT? Of course that happens when you do the purchase.

Teksonik wrote: Fri Feb 08, 2019 2:59 pm Was it an intentional act to piss people off ? No.
Well, intentionally pissing people off is pretty stupid so I don't think this is the case. .
:hihi: :hihi: :hihi:
So this was what it was all about ? They simply wanted to piss us off !! :o

It goes like this:

The customer buys something online and pays with zero VAT. The seller sends the goods, including documents (proof of purhcase, etc, also signifying that VAT is acknowledged but not charged). In the receiving country, the parcel goes through customs, and they see the proof of purchase. Before releasing the parcel to the local postal/delivery service, the local authorities contact the customer and charge the VAT based on the purchase price, plus additional customs based on the type of goods.

Well, for software, it works differently. You pay VAT when you purchase the software. Online stores in the US, and other countries which don't have VAT HAVE to incorporate a payment service, which takes account of VAT in countries which have VAT.

You are making excuses for the guy.
I guess you like him. But if anybody puts it in their head to make a case out of it, he could be in trouble.

DS never was GDPR compliant. Expecting GDPR compliant behavior from DS is, well, intellectually questionable to put it nicely.

Dimitry is an outstanding developer. His plugins are some of the best on the market today. I, for one, am happy that he made the transition to PA as customer friendly as he did. And besides, the grocery store around the corner has more data about me and my behavior than DS or PA will ever have. We are primarily talking about passing on an email address here.

When did we become such crybabies about everything?

Sorry, but this had to be said.

I'm sure you can legally force PA to erase your email adress from their system, if you want to. Like... you can unsubscribe from a newsletter.

I don't think for one minute that anyone is accusing anybody of a deliberate act or any malice was involved at all.

A lot of people, me included, are simply dumbfounded as to how this was handled so badly by all concerned.

The time limit that PA have put on the 'upgrade voucher' is just rubbing salt in the wound :x
