Hey together,
I tried myself on a remake of the classic song from Jean Michel Jarre:
https://soundcloud.com/sxop/oxygene-2
As the classic version is written in G minor I found it was worth a try to create a more "modern" (?) interpretation of the original
I took the melodies and adopted them a little bit to be more "accessible", not sure though if it works as intended and whether the mix needs some fix
What do you think? Any comments or change requests that come to your mind?
Thx for listening!

i don't like the modern compression "pumping" of it. its annoying, i know i sound like a broken
record on that but i just don't hear the appeal of that effect. it is distorting to the realism and natural beauty of
the soundstage. i found it rather bright, and hollow... a dip in the 100-500hz frequency range.
other than that. cool.

Hey Layzer, good point!
Have checked the spectrum again, indeed a dip around 200-400Hz, good ears!
What I could do for now is change the dynamic eq setting on the master: there was too much boost in the highs and I pushed the problematic freq gap up.
Also around 700-900Hz pulled down a little to get a more even spectrum.
Doesn't sound perfect but at least better than the first version!
Thx for that!

np, remember, my production observations are purely my opinions
until a good majority of KVR experts agree with them.
anyway,
i think my loathing of sidechain compression stems from childhood abuse
by my brother twisting the volume knob up and down while i was trying
to listen to my kraftwerk records with headphones.
