My Feedback

Music - 8.5
Instruments - 9.5
Performance - 10
Mix - 10

Overall - 9.5

Comments: I know the bass says sampled Ensoniq but that has FM all over it. Was it an FM sampled patch? Anyway, one of your better mixes. Surge does sound great. I guess now that it's free you'll be using it a lot. See, as soon as I heard the pad I said to myself "Wow, now that's a great sounding pad." Then I looked to see what made it. Interesting that it's a synth that you used to have to pay for. Oh and two instances of M1. That's another synth that isn't free. So maybe having synths that aren't free downloads can actually come in handy. Not saying you have to spend $500 on a synth but sometimes free doesn't do the job as well as paid does. I mean would this track sound the same if you used Synth1 for every track including drums?

it is 3 of the vfx voices, a mix of saw and square and a low passed white noise attack
then played bt XT cyberfree:

yeah, thats my kontakt player right there from 2002.

i'm not ALL about free synths... more about OLD ones,
free or paid. i enjoy getting good sounds out of them
with modern effects. :borg:

Regarding the mix, I have nothing to add. Balanced and great to listen to. Perhaps just a litle bit more sidechain ;-)
Great atmosphere!

May I ask what kind of reverb (VST?) you use and how you apply it to the instruments?

ughhhhhh sidechain distortion...no no no, never! :hihi:

what you are hearing is what i call LAYZERSOUND(R)

it is years of experimentation with different reverb types, psycho acoustic
processors and mixing techniques. At the core, i use Freeverb impulser 2
in true stereo mode with a custom impulse response i created.
Only people into a wide, natural, head filling soundstage will notice the difference
from most other soundstages. people can achieve it different ways, this is just
my own. :phones:

thanks for taking the time ;)

Fantastic mix with detailed, excellent sound design. :tu:

I thought the panning on the hats was a little extreme. The composition builds up and breaks down but is essential one long A section. I was hoping for a B section.

Post

Nicely done ! I agree with Frantz, more sectional variety might be good.

Also, kudos for using Surge. I'm testing the Linux port, got it working with the VST Host module in VCV Rack. Cool synth. :)

Best,

some great sounds in there too.

although, how you scored 10 on mix? no squealing feedback or anything???
i demand a recount! :hihi:
i got 5 :o

thanks guys, all unbiased feedback is very valuable as i take it with me to the next project.
i'll be sure to include more harsh squeals in the 3-5khz freq's to try to please everyone,
while not sending others to the hospital with blown eardrums! :hihi:

thats great dave! its now my goto for wavetable synthesis. i am
currently creating a wavetable set from my meticulously sampled
ensoniq vfx transwaves. this is very exciting as i've had my vfx
since its conception in 1989 and always loved the tonal shifts
you get with them over the plain rompler pcm wavs. :D

Nice sound combos on here. I liked the theremin and the brass hits. Great mix too. I saw the news that Surge was free a few months ago, but forgot about it. I think I'll give it a try. I don't think I've installed any new synths in over a year.

Good work :)

Nice track, uplifting vibe, has a victorious feel.
It builds nicely and holds interest well.
Great job!
