I feel like people who say they've owned the instrument being emulated or sampled always say the emulation doesn't sound anything like it. So what do you think they sampled a different instrument? It's over 5 gigs of samples and only 148 presets so you would assume they are high quality multi layered samples right? Just judging off all the youtube videos I watched it sounds exactly the same to me.
What do you mean bait? Bait for what? You think they may try to leverage this free download to get you to buy more? Is that bait or a FAIR TRADEOFF?
Did you email IK about the other 2 titles to let them know you didn't get a chance to download them? Or just assumed the worse that they only want you're money and eventually you're soul? lol wtf

I can only speak for myself, but, i'm not a big friend of sample instruments indeed. At some point, they all don't sound right to me.
+1 At least, they don't sound anything like the Memorymoog I owned and remember.
Not sure if this was "a generous offer" or just bait. But I spent the time and bandwidth to give it a try and was quite disappointed. YMMV.

Interestingly, I found two other titles in my account there which I never tried, since I never even knew they were there. And apparently their download availability had expired.

Really drove the nail home of how little IK-M offers to me now. And how much of it is ultimately a money pit.

What a disappointment! I thought they are giving away the hardware but it's a IK Sampletank instrument. Ho hum, don't care about another VST, especially another sampled analogue synth.
No signature here!

It sounds preprocessed is all. It's okay for a sampled synth, but perhaps calling it a Memorymoog is kind of a misnomer.
And as far as 'bait'? Well, they've earned a reputation for doing that. As far as the other two titles, IRDC. It does remind me that they've historically implemented new policies (always subject to change without notice) and that those can be a complete 180 of what they assured you of before buying.

I've had better samples for Kontakt though, and these are mostly meh in my final analysis.

Believe me, if we hadn't had a major snow storm complete with runoff and rock slides and all four highways off our mountain completely cut off, I wouldn't have wasted the time to begin with. They've been disappointing me for longer than I care to admit. At least I know nothing has really changed with them. Which could save me a lot in the long run.

It does seem to make Arturia better in comparison though.

Of course, YMMV. Syntronik and this bank simply doesn't take me anywhere.

I was able to buy ST3 for around $69 with an upgrade from ST2, hardly a money pit.

Memory-V is free for now and so I downloaded it, why wouldn't I?

Bandwidth? It doesn't cost you anything extra to download something, does it?
At least it doesn't with my internet provider.

Not the biggest fan of 12 year old threads I think it makes more sense to create new ones for new events to discuss current things. Personally I like being able to click the What's New side tab and see the whats being talked about. My way may be wrong sorry. Dunno why I expected a conversation on that actual instrument posting in the instruments forum.
I'm with you on this. And I'm on KVR damn near every day, for a few hours each time, and this is the first I'd seen of this. Thanks for posting!

I have the full version of SampleTank 3.x, and the free Syntronik player (which I don't explore as much as I probably should). It'll be interesting to see/hear any differences with these sounds between those two.

That was my thinking. Why not ?

I do appreciate the generosity of IK setting this library free but to be honest if I had paid for it I probably wouldn't be happy. Not that impressed with this library.

Oh well there are some raw Saw and Square waves to use and what the heck it's free.....

5gb of hard drive space for what it offers seems a little excessive but eh, it was free.

The reviews of Syntronik as a whole seemed to be positive. Maybe this is the odd clunker?

Post

Thanks for this to IK Multimedia. But yeah if you have already Syntronik there will be nothing new in this library. Just a waste of space. It feels like IK Multimedia doesnt have proper sound designers who can design a bit more complex sounds, because all i hear:

Saw Brass, lead, pad sounds with slight variations and those variations are in filter having a little bit cuttoff and filter envelope.
Saw + Sync Brass, lead, pad sounds with slight variations and those variations are in filter having a little bit cuttoff and filter envelope.

The Legend is more limited synth then Memory Moog (also limted in FX, LFO, Filter area then Syntronik itself) but has so much more varied sounds.

I was able in few minutes to make more complex sounds (even with the most horrible envelopes that ever existed and not behaving as expected) out what they already offer.

I bought Syntronik recently as it's on sale at the moment. The Memory-V isn't part of the basic Syntronik package, it's actually part of the Syntronik Deluxe release, so this was a nice bonus. I have to say that I'm not over-impressed by Syntronik so far, but it's okay for the price I paid, although the mechanism for downloading the sounds was very laborious and now I need to find somewhere to save approximately 50Gb of data in case I ever need to reinstall.

For me this is the fundamental flaw with Syntronik.
Sampled synths are already a kind of a strange concept to me because the whole point of a synthesizer is to be able to create any kind of sound from scratch (I mean it's in the name right?). That's not to say sampled synths don't have their place though. With samples you get a more authentic hardware/analog (if applicable) raw sound, complete with all of the little sonic flaws that give it a special tone. But the more you have to overlay the built in filters and envelopes and effects, the more you lose that thing about the sound that makes a sampled synth special. At that point you would be better off using a more powerful and flexible algorithmic synth.
The problem with Syntronik for me is that the starting point for most of the patches are just not that inspiring so I have to mess with things too much to get a sound I like. I do like it for some things though. It is good for very basic sounds.
That's all to say that I agree that I think they need better sound designers to work on this kind of stuff. If you gave some some really talented sound designers all of these classic synths and sampled the patches they came up with, I think you'd have a much better starting point than most of what you get with Syntronik.

I think this is my prompt to finally remove all redundant SampleTank libraries from my drive. Sonic Synth 2 is the only one that stays because it has its uses and hey Dave is a great patch dude.

I Used 20$ in "jam points" and got it for 49.99$. I haven't seen the sale mentioned anywhere, it's only on the IK site, audio deluxe still shows it up for full price.
I'm getting syntronic.and Probably the ST4 up grade,if I can find the HD space.

After playing with this freebie for awhile, I found it was enough to get me to buy...
Arturia Analog Lab 3!

Much cheaper, quicker and perhaps even more instantly gratifying for me. However, it's the organs I bought it for, not really the synths. Although I do quite like the Synclavier and the CS-80 I use more as an organ ala YC.
YMMV.
Enjoy whatever you get.
