ah, i immediately switched to folder view. bummer that imported instruments do not show up there.

overall, preset selection workflow is extremely clunky. much more so than ST3 - i actually prefer ST3 workflow at this point. they copied the Syntronik workflow for ST4 - i always found it clunky and stupid. ST3 was perfect for me.
I don't know what to write here that won't be censored, as I can only speak in profanity.

I was looking forward to this... but reading this thread I'm now kind of dreading the day when my USB drops through the door

Peter, is it the case that the VST2 plugin is not resizeable (only VST3)? I don't remember this being mentioned anywhere - and there will be a lot of irate Reason and Live users (at least until Live 10.1 comes out) if this is the case :(

Post

No answer yet as to if the USB is all the archives or the unarchived files. Please be the latter.

Wow to this release so far. And I don't even have it yet!

Can someone who has downloaded ST4 MAX or ST4 or ST4 SE post the total size of the download files?

This is a critically important question with (for me personally) some history behind it. I had ST2 and didn't use it at all because it was so small and hard to read on my screen. I pre-ordered ST3 because the publicity led customers to believe that the UI would be larger and easier to read. When ST3 arrived, the fonts had indeed been made more legible but the window was still tiny (and not resizeable) and hard to see on high resolution screens. So I haven't actually used ST3 either. Am I going to go through the same experience with ST4? An interface that is almost unusable on high resolution monitors unless you happen to use a DAW that uses VST3 plugins? If that's the case, it is absolutely necessary that this fact be disclosed on the IK website prior to purchase.

It's a bit late if we already bought it :dog:

This is a massive deal for me too, one of the main reasons why I took the upgrade.

I've now nearly completed the downloads for ST4. On several occasions, the installer didn't work after the download. I got the following message: "Installation Aborted. Cannot find any sound content to copy." Obviously, there are bugs in the system. For IK Multimedia's information, I'll list the downloads where this was a problem.

STA Woodwinds Samples - Parts 1 and 2
MP2CE Parts 1,2 and 3
SampleTank 3 SE Sound Content Parts 1 and 2

I do appear to have downloaded the content on these occasions, but the installer doesn't work. It possible I can drag the content to the right location, but I'd like instructions on how to do that if I'm going to attempt it, especially with the MP2CE content. That content appears to be multi-layered.

If, as I suspect, the SampleTank 3 SE downloads are "light" versions of the full SampleTank 3 program, then that one may not matter since the content for the full SampleTank3 program appears to be working fine. (I may be a bit premature here. I'm downloading the last of it as I write.) I've used SampleTank 2 in the past but never did purchase ST3.

Thanks,

I'm not having this issue here with Win 10. The ST4 standalone host app, plus the VST2 and the VST3 are all resizable.

ST MAX - about 140GB
That’s not including the ST3 content.

First thoughts on ST4 system performance.

App/plugin loads fairly quickly from SSD, my samples on a SATA 7200RPM HDD take a few seconds, but not bad. Overall seems stable so far. :tu:

But this thing takes some RAM!!!
  • My Windows 10 at idle uses 2GB of RAM.
  • ST4 empty without any instruments loaded takes about 2.1 GB.
  • My total RAM use then becomes 4.1GB, but as soon as you add any instruments, it goes higher.
So with Windows 10 you will need at least 8GB of RAM to run one instance of ST4. You will easily need at least 16GB, or more, if you plan to run several instances of ST4.

I think you will be happy with ST4. I upgraded for the same reason - the UI was too small in ST3. I'm very happy with the size of the ST4 interface.

I have tested ST4 on the Windows version of Ableton Live 10.0.6, which only uses VST2, and the windows is resizable. :tu:

Maybe a Cubase 10 thing? I hadn't installed the VST3 version the first time and went back and re-installed it when I realized I couldn't resize.
