im often asked by students "can you get me some weed?"
but occasionally someone will ask "is melody matter?" (probably stoned on the weed they got elsewhere, i don't supply).
i usually reply, "piss off! do i look like brian cox? im just walking past the college to get to the doctors you dick"
or something like that.
anyway, it leaves me wondering "is melody matter?"
id say no, its energy probably.
but like i said, im not brian bloody cox, go and ask a physicist ffs.

anyway...

is melody matter?

While rhythm is dark matter and harmony anti-matter, melody has been revealed as “doesn’t matter” and has no effect on the universe whatsoever.

A more interesting question would actually be:

Does melody have a bladder?

Not because of the potentiel answer to the question, which could be yes, no, either or neither or both, but how you make sense of the question in the first place. Now it may seem like a strange question but imagine that you have made this song you are very proud of and has posted in the music cafe. You recieve a PM from a visiting alien writing: “Great melody but it lacks bladder”. Now would you try to communicate with the alien? Would you try to make sense of it, and what could it mean, then? Or will you just tell him ET-Go-Home and put him on your foe list? And that is how an appearently incomprehensible question could have major impact on how we will approach our first contact with intelligent beings from outer space, now that we haven’t found any on Earth yet. We could learn something from them, given they have the right implants to hammer into our skulls.

OTOH, if Melody (with capital M) was actually a girl, she would probably have a bladder, but it would not make the Alien’s statement comprehensible anyway, so we cannot take that route. Besides, it was just an example for illustration. Question could as well has been whether melody smatter or flatter or shatter and lacks any of it.

if harmony is antimatter does that mean disharmony is matter?

melody may or may not matter, either way i doubt any individual melody, would have any real effect on the universe.
obviously, it may effect many people at a given point in time, but given the timespan of a universe, even the best melodies will be forgotten long before any lasting effect could be felt.

now we're putting some meat on the biscuit!
some bone on the phone!
some glitter on the cupcake!!!

2 things...
1)how do you think aliens would use a language so similar to ours, but with such different meanings?
would be some huge coincidence/god taking the piss, if the word bladder there meant something totally different to here.

and 2) i really think its cute, that you think this would be first contact :hihi:
ive had many communiques with non terrestrial entities (hehe titties) but rarely are they concerned with music n such, more about the inevitable self destruction of mankind, stealing our water or turning our teapots in to rocket ships

she could have also been a dog, either way, id hope theres a bladder on board, otherwise there could be some serious medical issue :(
