SampleTank 4 on the way

Hi Peter,
I noticed that there is SampleTank 3 content available as part of the ST4 content. Is there any reason to download it if it can't be loaded in ST4?

I have the exact same issue. I don’t think the multiple library paths are working - at least for you and me. If I point only to my ST3 library (which also contains syntronik deluxe and Miroslav 1 legacy imports) all of the content in This library works, but ST4 content is missing. If I point to both ST4 and ST3 libraries only the ST4 content works and I have the same issue where it “looks” for ST3 content in the ST4 library location. I’m assuming the ST4 content works because I have it as the first library in the library paths, but I have not tried it reversed.

I see in another post above where someone who is having no issues reported that they installed the ST4 content in their existing ST3 library folder, so I’m assuming they only have one path.

A lot of assumptions here, but i’ve logged a ticket for this and will let IK sort it out. I’ll post back if and when it is fixed.

For now, I’m simply working away with ST4 for ST4 content and ST3 for ST3 content.

I’m running Windows 10 on a Dell core i7 gaming laptop with 16gb ram and a 1tb SSD. Performance is stellar and everything is rock solid, but I have to qualify that with the fact that I haven’t actually used ST4 much yet. Rock solid for months before ST4 and so far so good with ST4.

Resizing with VST2 working perfectly here. No font issues, although I am seeing the double listing of ST4 content (ST4 standard, not Max)

FWIW, IK support has always been top notch in the past when I’ve needed them, but it seems the experience may vary for others. Still, I am very optimistic

The ST3 content loads but you don’t get the ST4 features like the mod matrix - the patches work as they did in ST3.

Not all do. Sta Woodwinds samples -parts 1 and 2 do not. MP2CE Parts 1,2 and 3 do not. SampleTank 3 SE sound content part1 & 2 do not. On top of that, the AU version of 4.0.1 crashes Logic Pro X plugin manager, at least on my system. ... NOTHING is working here.

OK thats are all obviously Mac speciofic inconveniences. I always knew that Windows is simply the most reliable and rock solid plattform.
Here at least from the beginning EVERYTHING (except the little triplet display-bug) is working, so perhaps you should think about using a more reliable plattform .

ummm, i'm on Windows. VST3 crashes on instantiation, the "triplicate" problem is there, the downloads for Windows version were corrupt (not so for Mac version!), plus there are numerous confirmed issues related to fonts and other stuff. i'm all for good Mac bashing, but you're on extremely shaky grounds here. 0/10

No , for sure here all windows downloads have been correct working from the beginning None of them corrupt at all. I installed and already used ST4 already with Dorico. The only but not that terrible important bug is what you mentioned first. The triplicate Display of patches. But I am confident 4.0.2. will solve that easily. So no trolling from my side at all. (While I wonder a bit how anyone would understand the statement to have no real problems - except the triplicate Patch-display- as "trolling tactics").

Not to be a meanie, but I counted 23 (!) bad zips on the first morning I downloaded!

After re-downloading several times, it was reduced to two (the strings 3 and 4) - and I grabbed the mac versions, which were fine. I'm lucky to have a very fast internet connection...

However, after all the install problems, I'm now running pretty good (except for the triple-instrument problem, which I'm sure will be fixed in 4.0.2). And, some of the instruments crash (even in the standalone version), but I haven't yet tried to keep track of them. I wouldn't use ST4 yet for any "real" work yet, sadly.

Certainly, I think IK needs to get a better and clearer installation method. And better QA?

This should be a good on-topic post... I'll likely sticky this on our forum too to provide a status on these regularly too, but it seems important to post here first in light of the post above about some OT stuff. Aynway..

1. Two corrupted sound download ZIP/DMG files [Back to two, as there were two corrupted - Stings Parts 3&4 on Windows (note they have been fixed) - but the other two were part of the "Install Aborted" Mac issue below so see that for more information pertaining to the Woodwinds 1&2 files]
2. Triple listing of certain instruments [Fixed in update 4.0.2, being tested, expected soon]
3. Imported/Legacy instruments' location [4.0.2 will offer new ways to filter imported sounds including new icons for SampleTank 3/legacy and SampleTank 4 imports separately for user friendly display]
4. Odd fonts issue [identified bug in the framework used, implemented a workaround in 4.0.2 until framework bug is fixed (it was also identified by other developers using this framework]
5. Resizing issues [Must be done via handle on bottom right corner, and also must have a display size that will support resizing larger, note that custom scaling settings may affect resizing]
6. Multis location [Upcoming sound library updater will move factory multis to a better location and generally resolve this issue]
7. "Installation Aborted" on Mac OS [currently there is a workaround for those who experience this, see below for list of files reported with which you may have this issue and a video showing the workaround]
8. Crashing [these are being assessed as reported do not appear to be global issues, and will be resolved directly in these cases]
9. Strummer presets not visible at first [please work directly with IK Support as they should be able to resolve this directly in the cases where this occurs]

Thanks for the info. I expect iK will get it sorted out soon. I'm on a Mac, so this seems to be a global problem. I figure I could just copy the ST3 content over to my ST4 drive, but I don't really want to do that.

So I guess its safe to say that, from an seasoned Sampletank user's perspective, ST4 is really not a continuation of the Sampletank line since ST4 doesn't provide full editing capabilities to legacy sounds (or ST3 sounds). It's really like a Sampletank X or Samplebox or whatever new name you wanna call it.. because it has a new way of working and it was a corporate decision that sees no need in providing support for the old stuff. Kind of like Sampletank 3 is like Fantom X SRX cards and Sampletank 4 is a Fantom G ARX cards... different architectures, but similar path & user base.

This kind of view makes it more clear for me, because to say this is ST4 but not be able to use the mod matrix, new lfos & envelopes on the samples and have 2 different engines it's almost a lie. They really aren't the same thing at all.

Have you reported it to the support team? I don't have it on my list of global verified issues so I'd suggest opening a ticket if you haven't already done so. Note that the multiple paths and SampleTank 3 libaries (including legacy imports) should be working, but there is a note on the list of issues about how imported libraries are shown in the list(s) which may be similar but doesn't sound like the same exact issue you're having.

Thanks for the summary of issues Peter! There's one more, which has been confirmed by another user here: In the phraser we only see one section under ST4, "Acoustic Drums". Now this may not be a "problem" but it certainly seems unusual.

I don't see that from the team as being reported to them and verified as a global issue. I hope it has been reported directly too as it would be solvable directly by support if so, I'm sure.

(Apart from personal animosities provided by others here) It is of course neither "off-topic" nor "an unnecessary distraction" to report, that here (on windows with all installed in the previous ST3 Folders) "everything works well (except the triplicate display of Patchnames).

It is just a matter of fact.
I even checked the two files wich are mentioned to be corrupted on windows (Strings 3+4) all are complete here and all do have their own and working installer .exe.

And what ever String (Bass, Cello(s), Viola(s), Violin(s) patch I tried all could be loaded without any problem.

I still believe it is necessary to keep in mind, that those Problems at aleast not all which are mentioned for Windows dont seem to be real general Problems but could be also for what reason ever individual. Since it obviously has been for others possible to download and use as it should be.

There were definitely fixes to those Strings 3 & 4 implemented, and noted in the status thread/updates. So that was an issue at the beginning, for sure, verified and resolved.

Peter, I have a custom scaling setting in Windows 7 -- font size = 110% instead of the default 100%. The resizing function in my Syntronik and T5 Max plugins appears to work normally with this custom setting. Is it safe to assume that ST4 will also work?? Or are the software development frameworks different, making this a risky assumption?

Also, my display resolution is 2560 x 1080. Is that enough for resizing to work properly?
