Even if it worked, the download and install process was ridiculous.

As a result, I don' even have ST3 installed on either of my systems but SonikSynth still is.
Sincerely hope its a new team sampling and making presets for ST4 than ST3, then again if it is the same team I will have saved money :)

Just out of curiosity: What was wrong with the sounds in ST3?

I'm having this issue. I've reported it to tech support. Has anyone had a resolution for this? Thanks.

To workaround, one needs both library paths for SampleTank 4 added - the path where SampleTank erroneously thinks the content is, and the path where the user actually installed the content.

To workaround:

1) Add "C:\Users\Public\Documents\IK Multimedia\SampleTank 4"
2) Add "E:\SampleTank 4 Sound Content", or whatever path to the directory where you have installed the content.

I don't know if this is a side-effect of installing the content on drive other than C:. I hope it is fixed soon.

This should have been fixed when you install the 4.0.2 update. If it has not please let IK Support know and they'll see what may have lingered for setups similar to yours etc if that is the case. Thanks!

People aren't stupid. We can see this is the worst product launch perhaps in history. Instead of trying to minimize the problems be a man and own up to the fact that IK dropped a steaming pile of beta on the market and are now having to do damage control.

Instead of trying to make it sound like there aren't many problems just apologize especially to those who pre-ordered then were to forced to beta test this mess for you. Apologize to those who paid and still haven't received their product.

Everyone makes mistakes but only real men and women own up to them....everyone else makes excuses.
We didn't make excuses. We posted a transparent full list of global bugs and fixed them quickly. Sorry that doesn't fit your narrative and sounds like an excuse but it is exactly what happened.

I'm sorry that the sky is not falling quite as much as you'd like and you're enjoying adding drama to where there is really not that much. It is what it is, though.

Also, we did apologize for the initial delay and absolutely (and multiple times) owned up to the download/install process issues and are working to make sure the experience is much improved going forward. But you are welcome to cherry pick whatever you'd like, I understand it may make you feel better so carry on.

Thanks Randygo,
I'll try this tomorrow.
I had this problem early on and I think there might be a couple of causes. This solution did not work for me. I contacted IK support and they resolved within 2 days. Make sure you get an auto reply when you open a ticket, otherwise it might not have actually gone through to support.

In my case, I had accidentally installed some ST3 content in the ST4 folder. Once they helped me sort the content into right folders and add both the ST3 and ST4 folders to the library path, everything worked 100% - ST4, ST3, Syntronik and legacy imported libraries.
Yes that is one of the most common reasons people experience this issue (installing content into SampleTank 3 folders). Good to reiterate here that shouldn't be done and I've suggested we should indicate this clearly in case others are tempted to do so.

Thank you for threatening violence, that is wonderful to see. I said nothing unprofessional. I am sorry that you took it that way but when people are misinforming others about IK, I have to clarify. I'm sorry that my honesty caused such a violent response.

Edit - also, I'm pretty sure TekSonik did not buy SampleTank 4 and isn't complaining about something bought. Could be wrong, but either way I stand by what I said. Facts are facts: 5 non-installation/download issues, fixed promptly. A few more added reported after 4.0.2 was released. Will be resolved soon in 4.0.3 but still not a huge list.

Could you elaborate? Would this be the procedure below?
---------------------------

Let ST4 do the default install on C drive

In my "L" drive, I will create two folders: "ST3 content" and "ST4 content"

Then install the ST 3 and 4 in the two separate folders.
Go into ST4 and under 'settings' and point to the two separate folders for content

What do you think?

I suspect that the heated reactions to bugs in the software itself are shaped to some extent by the download and installation experience. (Not that the bugs aren't significant.) I think everyone, including IKM themselves, agree that they need to rethink their product delivery and installation.

I suggest that IKM take a careful look at Toontrack's Product Manager. It's the best I am aware of. Superior Drummer 3 is about the same total size as ST4, and downloading, installation, authorization and updating are rock solid.

Most of the issues (an overwhelming majority, I believe at least 70%) were download/installation issues. Yes, as stated above, it is definitely something that will improve going forward as a priority. And yes, we're looking at other examples - I can't say which I prefer but I do know your suggestion has definitely been put forward to look at (including its evolution/the improvements made to it over time).

I can't seem to find anything for setting the disk streaming? The libraries still take forever to load and the memory footprint doesn't seem to change as I use it. Can you provide some clarification on how the disk streaming is sup posed to work?

What is needed is ZERO load time option that only loads samples as they are used.
If you have to ask, you can't afford the answer

Well, I definitely did not install any content to my SampleTank 3 folder. I was very careful about this during the install. Our configurations may be different but lead to the same symptom of the locked library button. After I shared my workaround with Support, I was told that I probably installed content to my SampleTank 3 folder, which I did not. I suspect there is something awry with installing the SampleTank 4 content onto a non C: drive in the case of Windows. The application seems to expect certain paths when scanning for content, regardless of the user settings. Something gets messed up.

I am running the 4.02 version of SampleTank 4.

Question about the ST3 files listed in the ST4 download area:

First - some background. I purchased ST3 but never used it. I did download the app but never DL's the sounds files (my fault - keep forgetting IK's "hold your sound files hostage" policy - which - isn't helped (IMO) by putting the program download files under one tab and the sound content files under another - as, in my "not being careful" case, I downloaded the program and just assumed I had the whole shebang on my computer). O well, live learn. So... if I want to have ST3 running as a standalone copy of ST3 - I know I'd need to pay again to have access to my sounds. (I don't want to do this)...

What I DON'T know is - are the ST3 files listed in the ST4 download area the sound files for ST3? And if so, if I download these will I then have access to the ST3 content once again (but, only in ST4)...or... are these ST3 files only a list of the instruments and I'd STILL need to pay and download my ST3 sounds to have use of them in ST4?

Thanks for any insightful replies.
