This guy recreated an effect from the video game NieR:Automata as an experiment. I could describe it as a... "harmonic bitcrusher"?

How the original filter worked in the game:

At the end of the post, he says: "VST plugin? No plans, but plans can change." I hope he gets to it; it sounds so AWESOME!

interesting. I was trying to do this in pd last year but never actually finished it. Might try to rewrite it as a plugin some day, just for the sake of it.

Wow, I love this. At the very least, I would love to experiment by dropping this filter onto existing tracks just to see what happens. Even if this dude never releases a VST, maybe some enterprising plugin dev will get inspired by his work and replicate it?

Interesting idea. I'll forward it to my friends who are much more fluent in cpp than me. Maybe someone will find it interesting enough to make vst

Hi, author here. I'll make a simple VST plugin of this when I have time.

Hi again. I made a simple Windows VST (VST 2.x) which you can test.

https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tuJfrL ... sp=sharing (https://drive.google.com/file/d/1tuJfrLIcRNmPwO23vk6KFXlTnFIz-v3C/view?usp=sharing)

Caveats:
- It's 64-bit. I figure everyone is using 64-bit DAWs now?
- I've tested it in Reason.
- There is no UI at the moment.
- It's fully wet, so it should be used as a send effect or something like that to blend the original sound and the tone filtered output. 50/50 mix sounds good.

This is amazing stuff! Really nice work replicating the effect.

Is there any chance of seeing a macOS build of that VST?

Got it to build on macOS. Tested it in Audacity, and seems to work?

Hopefully it'll run for you. I'm not very experienced with macOS app development.
