This guy recreated an effect from the video game NieR:Automata as an experiment. I could describe it as a... "harmonic bitcrusher"?

interesting. I was trying to do this in pd last year but never actually finished it. Might try to rewrite it as a plugin some day, just for the sake of it.

Wow, I love this. At the very least, I would love to experiment by dropping this filter onto existing tracks just to see what happens. Even if this dude never releases a VST, maybe some enterprising plugin dev will get inspired by his work and replicate it?

Hi again. I made a simple Windows VST (VST 2.x) which you can test.

Caveats:
- It's 64-bit. I figure everyone is using 64-bit DAWs now?
- I've tested it in Reason.
- There is no UI at the moment.
- It's fully wet, so it should be used as a send effect or something like that to blend the original sound and the tone filtered output. 50/50 mix sounds good.

Got it to build on macOS. Tested it in Audacity, and seems to work?
