This modulating sound

How would I make the modulating sound that comes in right at the start of this track: youtube.com/watch?v=dHwR-ab8UFI
I've also heard it in a couple of other tracks and thought it would be a useful to learn how to make less 'melodic' synths (if that makes any sense?) since I'm still quite new to sound design, and struggle to create anything that doesn't sound like a lead synth.
Any advice would be greatly appreciated!

My ears are picking up a slightly ring modulated saw pluck, with a filter on it of course. The part I think you're hearing that "modulates", though is some sample/bit depth reduction. It's only on the delay as far as I can tell. If you have Ableton, you can just slap the Redux plugin on your delay bus, but any degradation/bit crusher plugin will suffice.
I wish I could be more specific with the pluck sound itself right now, though I'm not near my setup or headphones. There's a high resonance on it, that's for sure.

I thought it was FM and tried for a bit but couldn't get it.
When I got closer to the sound with anything I did when I tried getting closer still it went to shit.
It could very well be ring modulation and perhaps more than 1 modulator.
I'm pretty sure it has key tracking on the filter which has a good bit of resonance as well.

Have not actually tried to recreate this one (yet). That being said....
My guess....it's mainly due to a (highly) resonant filter AFTER the synth. The synth just feeds it a Sample&Hold modulated filter cutoff patch.
Something like the FREE AudioThing - FilterJam
https://www.kvraudio.com/product/filter ... audiothing
FilterJam is a 4 band resonant filter bank. The bands can be summed (mixed) or multiplied (amplitude/ring modulation). You'd have to fiddle with it's knobs to find out if it's really the way to go.

To me that sounds just like an ordinary fastly decaying resonant pluck with a bit of short reverb to accent the resonance. Probably the exact sound is down to the filter specs of the synth.
