Is there a demo for this? Can't find it...
I think it might be through the Steinberg Download Assistent software maybe it works for 30 days or something. They didn't add a link to it in their website navigation under Halion instruments either.

Thanks, i'll give it a try. There's indeed a download for it in the Steinberg Download Assistant.

No point comparing to an oberheim as it wouldn’t have been made to emulate it. It’s a stripped down retrologue basically. All their dsp based analog synths in hailing’s are just a new macro GUI for that engine.
You can say the same about ANY Kontakt synth available.
The fact is, Rast-A sounds fantastic.
No you can't, because Kontakt "synths" are sampled instruments. The synths in Halion (like Trium and Voltage) are the same synth as retrologue, with less functions showing on the custom macro GUI. I could be wrong about RAST-A though, maybe it's sample based. Does anyone know? At first I thought it was based on the analog synth module.

I hear some similarities between Retrologue and Voltage, when not using the Retro Resonators,
but Trium can sound really different from those when using the self-syncing oscillator types.

Some Halion synths are indeed like that (like the ones that come with Cubase), with only a few basic knobs. But Rast-A is a fully featured synth with full editing capabilities, just like any VST synth.

If Trium ever sounds different it is simply because one of the analog modules controls was put on the Macro GUI which wasn't included for Voltage. Same oscillators and filters etc. My point is that if you use the Halion analog module or retrologue you have anything that would be created in halion using that engine.

So it isn't Halion based? If it is, and it's not made with samples, then it's using the analog osc (or could be wavetable osc), or rather a subset of the features, so it's not anything new for any Halion user.

It could be new for the majority of users (like myself) that haven't dived that deeply into making their own stuff yet.

I know what you're saying though - that it's probably somewhere in the underlying code already.

No way to demo it, by the way. It seems to require a full license to play with it. I installed and registered it, but, doesn't show up in Halion Sonic SE.

I vaguely remember an additional step to be made for Halion expansions to show up after installation.

Don't see any furthre step necessary. https://helpcenter.steinberg.de/hc/de/a ... 5783102435

I assume there's just no way to demo it.

What i probably meant was the library manager (not eLicenser) registration step, which apparently you did. Sorry for the confusion.

Hello all,

We would like to clarify some of your doubts about this new Analog Synth.

- A new separate Filter was developed
- The hardware components were modeled and various own functions and behaviors like mapping, voice management and custom modulations like portamento and drift were also newly developed
- In resume, it's not just about a new interface for the synth engine, it's about specially designed scripts and behaviors that also result in a different sound

We hope this helps

Best regards,

'A new separate Filter was developed'

Is this now also available in Halion so users can create their own instruments with the new filter?

I imagine with a script..? Halion is honestly super confusing to me and I don't understand how the scripting works but it seems to be the magic spell to make things sound different then what is stock.
Like for instance Sample Fuel, are they selling GUI's to Halion are they claim they're own scripted synths...I dunno.

Seems to be a bit tricky to get it working, right? Installing is not the problem but "Rast-A" is not listed in Halion Sonic SE. Does it need some (demo) activation before its listed?
