Thanks for the quick response, was wondering about these. So are the threads related to the phase pressure component and, if so, what are they?

Post

Also a good question, no, threads has nothing to do with phase pressure, it is the actual number of threads used in the distortion algorithm. The entire algorithm runs in a single thread, one thread per detune voice, and increasing the threads dial increases the number of copies of the algorithm running. Additional threads use different frequency ratios which are whole number factors of the original ratio which over all creates more thickness in the sound without destroying the quality of the original ratio.

Oh cool!! ......can you name one of the controls " kanoblin valve "? Can be any one.

Sorry,.....I woke up to the sounds of Falcons screaming outside my window. It put me in a playful mood.

Hey, I'm gonna go ahead and back up everyone else and agree that CPU efficiency is still the main thing I care about...

THAT SAID, I would love a bit more detail about the distortion parameters in the manual. I really appreciated all of your relatively new descriptions of the filter modules and their best applications, and would love something similar for the nitty gritty details for distortion. I've found it pretty hard to get a sense for what everything is really doing. The past few posts here were the first time I was able to even get a semblance of an idea.

Relatedly, once you boost CPU efficiency, the manual will only be half as long anyway after you get rid of all the CPU tips!

Are there plans in the future for making Distortion as separate effect rather than being integrated in oscillator?

Post

LOL, Yes the "kanoblin valve" will be in the next release, right next to the farfegnugen dial.

There are plans for a compressor/limiter unit which will probably have some fuzz distortion capabilities.

Yes the user guide for the next release will have sections on Detune and Distortion.

There is not an adequate "Smilie" in the "Smilies Section" to describe how hard I'm laughing right now...

:o If you turn the knoblina the wrong way,
or somehow turn the wrong knoblina,
you might wind up nfuggenfear :scared:

OH MY, this is gonna turn into a runaway inside Fathom users joke.   My advice, when you turn the knoblina while tweeking the Fathommachina, and add farfegnugen whilst enjoying a drink like your in a cantina, DO NOT use headphonemachina, as the resulting nfuggenfear is quite severe, and shall farfenfearlina far meana than monitormachina - (Suess using Fathom)

No need for sorry's. I'm like that on a daily basis. I just hold back. I hang out with children of all ages, and sing silly songs on my acoustic Bass for them... Kinda like the one you just read. :D

I'm actually not quite sure how any other Wavetable synth is being used at this point. Just look at how that beautifully Modulated Wavetable coalesces into a magnificent morphing hypnotic state of zen. The audio quality in this video isn't the best, couldn't handle the high frequencies, but hey, it's my very first screen recording. Couldn't resist sharing. I pushed the CPU a bit with this one

@AmbientivA, thanks for posting. This looks and sounds great. I like the idea of synth programming as composition. I look forward to exploring more of your programs.

......Oh, the places we will go.

I like the idea of synth programming as composition also. Probably why Fathom is so attractive to me.

Would be great to have the waveform display
sent to a second or third monitor, or have a key-combo
switch to full-screen display, configurable as either
a layer on top with the gui controls visible,
or as a faux screensaver while jamming.

Would be cool to beam it through a projector
to the wall seen from the keyboard players location
Or beam it on a ceiling at a party as a random arp

Post CPU coding magic, of course

Nice audio/video, AmbieticA!

Feature request...

Single-sideband modulation (AM/FM)
https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Single-si ... modulation

Both AM and FM generate 2 sets of sidebands (to the "left" and to the "right"). Also "reflected" "negative" (phase inverted) sideband frequencies can interfere with the audible/resulting spectrum.

As the name implies: Single-sideband modulation generates just 1 of the 2 sidebands, as generated by AM/FM. Either the lower or the upper half.

I guess it could also be used as a frequency (band) shifter or exiter or suboscillator type effect.

FathomSynth wrote: Mon May 13, 2019 7:14 pm I would change your preset so the filter frequency is lower and better tuned to the frequency content of your oscillator, or get rid of filter key tracking completely.
Thanks for your elaborate explanation, I didn't realize that. Will change it.

- Why is the decay stage of an ADSR so clicky with Note-off function on? How can I stop that from happening? I have set a slow attack but whatever I do, there are clicks at every note I play.
- After loading my preset today I notice there are no more edited modulators to use on parameters.
( audio components > modulator > edited modulator )

Cheers!
