come on....super8 vs Repro5?? really?EvilDragon wrote: Fri May 31, 2019 9:01 pmSo if you don't agree with something it's immediately bullshit? Compelling argument, there, no question about it.PietW. wrote: Fri May 31, 2019 8:28 pmAre you sponsored by NI or why are you writing such a bullshit here?EvilDragon wrote: Fri May 31, 2019 6:54 pm Form is cutting edge. Super 8 is just as great in getting the vintage analog sound as Repro-5, just a different flavor of it.

They both sound great and are top of the crop in virtual analog emulation IMHO, yes.

Yeah I'm all ears if somebody has a valid non-ad-hominem argument on why S8 wouldn't be considered as good as Repro-5, taking the raw core sound in question only (Repro obviously wins in FX - and that's fair, since they're really phenomenal). The filter sounds absolutely great in both synths, and the Character knob in S8 gives you different flavors of the same Curtis chip (which BTW is also what Repro-5 models). S8 wins in modulation possibilities and has a wider range of possible raw waveforms due to how the oscillators work. Repro-5 has the very cool Tweaks page with interesting stuff there. S8 is extremely fast to use because there's no tabbing. Both are equally great in different aspects.

Honestly, I don't know why people are comparing two completely different synths.EvilDragon wrote: Fri May 31, 2019 9:06 pm Yeah I'm all ears if somebody has a valid non-ad-hominem argument on why S8 wouldn't be considered as good as Repro-5, taking the raw core sound in question only (Repro obviously wins in FX - and that's fair, since they're really phenomenal). But I guess that's the KVR way.
Why don't we compare Serum to The Legend just for shits and giggles?
That should be a fun debate.

Because they're not exactly "kompletely" different. Both S8 and Repro-5 are based (S8 in the filter) on Prophet-5 Rev 3 and the exact same Curtis chip that powers that filter, with S8 expanding the oscillator section with some Alpha Juno vibes and extending modulation. Both are virtual vintage analogs reimagined in a more modern fashion. They're more similar than you think. Of course Serum vs The Legend makes no sense, since one of them is a wavetable synth and the other is notwagtunes wrote: Fri May 31, 2019 9:38 pmHonestly, I don't know why people are comparing two completely different synths.

Silly me, clicking on the most recent page of a Massive X topic,
and expecting it to actually be discussed
Maybe page 93 will bring better luck
Cheers

I do agree they can be compared, but I disagree they're in the same league. As much as I like S8 (and I do), repro's core sound is better. And I'm really curious where MX will stand as well, sound wise.
