Can anybody recommend me a more granular plugin similiar to VPS Timefreeze. I tried the demo, but the interface is kind off slugish on my Macbook Pro and was wondering if there is maybe another / newer plugin that does the same thing = Envelope based granular pitch down/up timestretch fx.

Most multi-FX plugins have something like this. Have you looked into Glitch2, StutterEdit, Turnado/Effectrix, Tantra?

Thanks, but they don't do this as intuitive from the looks of it (no envelopes)

Uhbik G is very similar. Soundtoys Crystalizer can do a lot of the same things as this too if you set the delay time very low, but neither have the MSEG editor.

Have you tried VPS Glitch Bitch to see if it performs any better than timefreeze for you? It's kind of just an all-in-one timefreeze, tape stop, pitch shift and filter.

edit - output portal looks like it has MSEGs, but it's expensive

I'd give Time Freezer a try, although it's not granular but spectral FFT freezing. Pretty cool still: http://timefreezer.net/

Mangle is technically disqualified as it is an instrument. It doesn't take any audio-in.

That TimeFreezer is pretty nifty. I'd be tempted to purchase the package, if only it didn't require a f*ing hardware dongle?!

Maybe TimeShaper could produce similar effects?

FYI... as someone with the vengeance fx2 bundle, as well as glitch bitch, I find the VST2 is a much smoother experience than the vst3 in ableton live. Might be because Live is new to VST3, but things like selecting from the drop down menus in VPS plugs can be pretty sluggish and take multiple clicks in the VST3 but works perfectly in the VST2

Look at BYOME, it's got some great granular options on board...
Just because it's insane doesn't mean it's a bad idea.

Outputs Portal looks like it does exactly the same thing, but the price is depressing :)

Yes but man it does sound good. They nailed their granulation so well.

The Portal by Output $149

Yes sounds good.
What would be a good cheaper alternative to the Portal?

Sorry, the other time freezer... from VPS:

Which requires a hardware dongle:
