1/4” TS jack foot switch input (MIDI assignable)
1/4″ Expression pedal input (MIDI assignable)

Are listed as the options, I'm guessing foot switch is a sustain pedal, but I don't really know about expression pedal, what use does it serve over the mod wheel I can assign for expression ? Apart from freeing up the mod wheel for something else of course :) Also is there anything else I could plug in that might be useful ?

Sustain pedal is the one I find most useful, but for expression pedal you could assign it to volume

I use the expression pedal input for an on/off switch for Live's Looper.

It's just one more modulation source, and being controlled by your foot it allows you to play with both hands on the keyboard.
I currently don't have a keyboard with aftertouch and often use the pedal to control filter cutoff when playing with both hands.
