I'm still looking for a code if anyone has one. If you could PM me that would be so appreciated!

There's semitone tuning for the oscillators, but is there no fine tuning? :?

EDIT: Set to No Quantization....got it.

Is there some kind of waveshaping function built into this thing? You can never really stop it distorting, just reduce it.

Testing in Renoise 3.1 demo (still haven't migrated everything to my new machine) with one bassy sine wave and linear x-fade mixer, osc 1 at 100%, filter and Byome bypassed. This is audibly distorted at 0dB output gain despite hitting around -9dB on the channel. Dropping the mixer -12dB and adding +12dB back with Renoise's Gainer module is cleaner, -24 then +24 is cleaner still, -36 then +36 is even cleaner. The lower you, go the cleaner it gets.

Is this by design? It'd be nice if this behaviour could be bypassed if so.

on the mac, with cmd key held down it gets even finer ;-)

I wondered about this too. Even some of the factory presets have obvious and bad-sounding (to me) distortion despite having no in-patch distortion to speak of. One of the many reasons I ultimately decided to pass on the synth.

Thanks so much. I used the $99 code. Much appreciated!

Every time I load Lion (in Bitwig by the way, on MacOS Mojave) it defaults to it's smallest size. So I have to drag it to a larger size and press the wide button every time. Rather annoying.
In Bitwig for every instrument or plugin you can set your own default preset(s).
Go to the "Mix Panel Layout", right click on the vertical bar on the left side of an instrument or plugin (where the name is displayed) and then a menu pops that has as its last entry "Save as Default Preset".
Click on that and you are done.
It took me a while to find that feature but since then it has helped me a lot.
I just tried it with saving LION in the wide mode as default preset and it works.

Is that with "No Quantization" selected? It lets me fine tune that way with no quantize chosen (10ths of a semitone), but not any finer if I use Ctrl (usually the same as Cmd on Mac).

yes

if Q were enabled, i'd expect it to snap to the corresponding position which imho would be something very different than "fine-tune"...

yes, same here

a sine is not a sine is not a sine is not....

example:
OSC1 = sine, OSC2 = off
mix osc1=100, gain = 0
filter off

@ 2kHz fundamental, there are 6kHz, 10kHz, 14kHz, 18kHz (22kHz?) harmonics

which would render it as a square?

and if you dial the fundamental up to higher regions you'll get happy aliasing

i have used the MMultianalyzer and RS-MET multianalyzer. but stay with the first one.

indeed you see the harmonics, more or less at the frequences you mentioned and if you set the resolution of MMultianalyzer to -100 dB (i assume dBFs..), you see the aliasing, but at such low levels, that have more synths i guess..

the MMultianalyzer contains also a oscilloscope, which shows a... sine, but not a perfect sine, but also vintage synths show that, haha. i mean with not perfect: raffled line.. i do not know a better term. but it is a sine, slightly off..

oversampling has no influence on the levels.

but you hear a sine........ additive synthesis, partials, if i am working with it, i get it, when not but you are right about the partials the sine partials, but ow well, the harmonics you see are always sines i believe.. but it doesn't make a square. by the way try to make a square; in oscilliscope it is a a square with a limp... only the triangle looks like a real triangle...

but strangely enough i get great sounds out of it...

so is the "sound engine" flawed? or is this by design?

because all this is technical analysis, what does it say? this is an open question, i am no expert.

i shall try the euro reakt blocks, in reaktor. once...

From what I can tell, it's not internal distortion but that the sine isn't entirely clean when it comes out of the generator. It may well be an artefact of the way it's implemented. My guess is that the simple sine uses the same core generator as the one in The Forms – but ability to move between triangle and sine means that the sine is never entirely "clean". My guess is that UA wanted it to be like an analogue synth where the waveforms are approximations to the supposedly ideal shapes.

plausible assumption, ideal shapes aren't always necessary, is this blasphemy in the diva, serum world??

the MSoundfactory makes a perfect sine, with no aliasing, but the square seems to be derived.

that is my question, this can be by design, because of richness of sound.

EDIT: is this analysing only an analysis how LION works. are we chasing ghosts. i say we, but i did the tests, also for more understanding. alright, i chase along..

the sounds i made, from scratch, are great. so... (only oversampling has a bug, confirmed..)

some people dislike MSoundfactory because it is so.. pure...

matter of taste, or ...???
