I am looking for the name/origin of this classic metallic synth sample. The best example I can find is in Super Mario 64 - Metallic Mario. The sound can be heard right at the beginning and throughout.

Any ideas?

Thanks,

Sounds like the Orchestra Hit from the SC-88.
Look at Sound Canvas VA or Virtual Sound Canvas. Latter is discontinued, but you may be able to find it somewhere still. Former can be found on Roland site for about $150.
Synth1, PG8X, Dexed, Sound Canvas VA, FB-3x00 series, blooo, scrooo, qyooo, SQ8L, GTG FM4, DSK Asian and Indian DreamZ, and much more VSTs. Casio, Yamaha, Korg, Alesis HW.
