elassi wrote: Mon Dec 30, 2019 2:04 pm Ok, let's agree on this final statement (because as a Pro you surely have better things to do during your precious time):

It's a clown synth and you are a clown member.

Ok?
now you've really gone and done it. i am absolutely astonished at the gall. what a sad time we're living in.
are you a time traveller from the 1940s?
Now you've gone and done it even more. I am astonished on Clown members behalf at your positively gallish gall in these saddest of sad gallish times.

Gallish gall? He’s not French you know!

But back on track about the sound of Pigments. I've described Arturia sounds as thin in the past, but that's not really the right word, except maybe to describe the attack. There is definitely a lack of punch and snap with Arturia. This is where the emulations tend to fail as well, however often smoother, more sustained sounds do alright. But with a wavetable synth, often you're after that sort of snappy digital attack, and I still don't find Pigments to be great with that. As for the body, as Bones examples show, it's not that they are thin, but it does too easily go into unpleasant distortion territory, or when filtered, a rather unpleasant muffled sound. And this is the case for most of it's fm/pm/pd audio rate modulations as well. Unpleasant compared to many other, ("sharper"?) sounding synths. Doesn't hold up to other synths I don't think. I think that's the best way I can describe what many of us don't love about the Arturia sound in general. But of course a lot of it is down to the type of music we want to make. Bones had a certain sound in mind which turned out pretty similar on Dune, and while I didn't like the sound, Pigments gave what he was after so there's no arguing about that. I see it more as what's missing in the Arturia sound character from what I tend to like in other synths.

Yes, this isn't new. The Arturia synths need some post processing to give them more oumph or however you want to call it.

After reading the last through pages I just have to say it is downright mindblowing the treatment I've received on here. I literally cannot believe some of the things I'm reading in this thread. I thought this place was welcoming but this really makes me question the degree of wisdom of the users who post here.

I thought this was a place I could grow my professional connections but now I see it's just a den of children and asinine chumps with nary a shred of respect for their superiors. You don't want to know the kind of connections I have in the industry.

why do people put stuff on the mixbus? why is that important... I figure post-processing on the mix-bus is meant to be done in mastering? I see many pro mixers talking about putting effects onto the mix bus and it confuses me, as I see the mix as the mix, the master as the master. two completely different steps.

why do pros put stuff on the mix bus at all?
"I was wondering if you'd like to try Magic Mushrooms"
"Oooh I dont know. Sounds a bit scary"
"It's not scary. You just lose a sense of who you are and all that sh!t"
