Simple little piece for string trio - violin, viola and cello.
Possible theme tune for one of those sophisticated, intellectual BBC2 quiz shows that everyone watches in the hope that one day they'll get a question correct!
Created using Spitfire Audio's Solo Strings library in Kontakt 6.

Perfect
I don't watch Quiz-shows, I hope this doesn't matter - I just enjoyed the well-done form and composition.
PS. And nice to see you again here with your music, Mark

Thanks for the feedback!
I don't watch them very much either...just what came into my head when I was fiddling with the initial melodic ideas!
Back on KVR - cheers...let's see how it goes! I was active here for 12+ years last time and then just needed a break from some of the more negative aspects of it all.

Hehe, spot on, either that or one of those 'jaunty' crime shows set in some rural village where John Nettles wears a wig and plays a copper, and loads of old women coo at him.ChameleonMusic wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 2:28 pm

Perhaps missing some quirkiness for such a use. I get more of aa Antiques Roadshow spin-off vibe, or Melvyn Bragg's next arts series. Maybe even one of those Sunday morning shows on which politicians are interviewedChameleonMusic wrote: ↑Sun Dec 29, 2019 2:28 pm https://soundcloud.com/chameleon-music/quizzicality

I think you might be 100% right about the lack of quirkiness...maybe a bit too straightlaced / straightforward...MB or Sunday Morning Politics...yes, I can hear that!el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2020 8:49 pmPerhaps missing some quirkiness for such a use. Spitfire Audio - no, I've had Solo Strings for around 6 months now, but have been too busy to try it out properly. Just decided it was time to see what it could do - quite impressed overall, although the Violin performance patch lacks a bit of 'bite'.
41 key switches and 14 lanes of automation in this simple piece!

I was going to say 'Austere', but checking the definition suggests a more negative connotation than I'd previously thought. Y'know...high art, stiff-upper-lip etc. I know you get what I mean.ChameleonMusic wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2020 10:56 pmI think you might be 100% right about the lack of quirkiness...maybe a bit too straightlaced / straightforward...MB or Sunday Morning Politics...yes, I can hear that!el-bo (formerly ebow) wrote: ↑Sun Jan 05, 2020 8:49 pmPerhaps missing some quirkiness for such a use. I like it, though. Never would've imagined it would take such 'massaging' to get a good performance out of those samples, but the results speak for themselves.
There is something weird going on that I can't quite put my finger on, though. But it seems more like a sonic issue than a programming one. Will have to give it a listen in headphones, tomorrow, as it could just be an issue with my little bluetooth speaker not managing the separation too well.

Let me know if you find anything! There is something weird going on that I can't quite put my finger on, though. But it seems more like a sonic issue than a programming one.
The violin is their 'Performance' patch - designed for playing live...I did it that way and then edited a little afterwards...it works quite well, but it lacks an edge and I wasn't totally sure how well it blended with the viola and cello.

I think I've found out what's catching my ear: On the descending line, the transitions/legatos feel a little unstable/wobbly, especially from the B-flat to the C, and seemingly more so after the middle section.ChameleonMusic wrote: ↑Mon Jan 06, 2020 6:28 pmLet me know if you find anything! There is something weird going on that I can't quite put my finger on, though. Now, whether you can extract anything of worth out of that non-musical description is another thing, altogether

Yes, that's the section of the performance violin patch that doesn't really work quite well enough for me...even being legato it needs more edge / attack / bite at times.
I did experiment with it quite a lot and that was the best I could do - I had various versions.
I've made a note for next time to try layering the performance patch with the normal key switch solo violin at certain moments or even interchanging them maybe?
Thanks for the in-depth listen - very helpful that someone else noticed that section as well! It's not a BIG issue as such, but it definitely could be improved next time.

Been lurking over at V.I.Control for a few months. Was quite surprised to see how many thousands can be spent on libraries that all seem to be lacking in some way. Was naive enough to think there would be a good all-in-one solution

I thought it sounded pretty decent. I think one should concentrate more on what one is trying to communicate than realism. I think you could expand on these ideas if you have the desire to put in the time and effort.
