I mean, what sets it apart from Surge?
It's a lot closer to something like Serum in that you can build and edit wavetables inside the instrument. It has several options to generate wavetables from source material. In Surge you just work with the available wavetables (which are great), so that is more like Massive.

Check the video above, posted by Peter:H at the 32 minute mark.

I use Surge (and love it) but I'm pretty hyped about Vital :D
Got it, thank you for the explanation.

Really cool, let's see if it gets to Serum's sound quality. The feature set and UI is pretty much the same.

I'm amazed the guy is releasing it as FOSS...

The Text to wavetable.
I don’t think I’ve yet to see a PAID wavetable synth do that.
I noticed tonight on this and another thread, Between this and Surge, VCV Rack, ol reliable Tyrelln6 for VA, and now Sonar and T7 Free, it’s absolutely incredible how many quality programs can be accessed for free.
I’m kinda jealous of people who are starting now.
They can assess for free for programs on the same level and ability as programs I had to pay 400$-500$ to get.

But jealousy aside it’s super exciting because it helps Spread music production to all! Including those who can’t comfortably afford the big name expensive synths. Same with the rent to own model from splice.
It’s a really cool time to be alive.

What!?? That’s sick!
I’ve used Serum for years and didn’t know it did that.

Yeah so nothing new then. Yawn. Lets see if this will be good. Helm was awful so i doubt it.

To answer your concerns, I rewrote all the DSP for Vital so it won't sound anything like Helm.
There are going to be more posts about Vital and I'd appreciate if you kept your dislike for Helm to Helm related threads.

If you have any specific questions about the sound in Vital (maybe about things you *really* hated in Helm), let me know and I can share a sound demo.
