Hey guys, I have a crazy deal on an upgrade to the tonal balance bundle from izotope but I don't really care about neutron or nectar, and I prefer my fabfilter plugins to everything in ozone.

But I don't know of anything like the Exciter or stereo Imager components, which are awesome.

I'm also not really into their constant lackluster updates with high prices.

Anything from other companies that could compare?

Melda MStereoProcessor is a multiband stereo tool
As for multiband exciter try Wavesfactory Spectre, very flexible thing

Spectre is amazing. I like using SlickEQ M for multiband stereo imaging. It also has a high and low frequency exciter.

For a multiband exciter with some M/S capabilities, I bought Process Audio Sugar on a BF deal and so far I am very impressed with it.

A version of the Ozone Imager can be had for free
https://www.izotope.com/en/products/ozone-imager.html

I have so many great saturators, there's no need to zero in on the Ozone Exciter, I just don't use it.

And I agree about the Ozone tools just not feeling right (for me). More or less hate the eq, can't gel with the compressors. I have so many things I prefer above Izotope that I never even think of giving the Izotope compressors a few minutes on the pitch. Even their perfectly good Pultec annoys me because of the interface.

Not to say I don't use Izotope stuff all the time. For a few dedicated jobs I'm very glad to have the bundle, and the Expo.Audio reverbs are my go-to. But definitely not married to that ecosystem and I just wouldn't use Neutron as my strip.

Imager 2 is free and actually quite good. But if you want a multiband exciter here's the best one: Wavesfactory Spectre https://www.wavesfactory.com/spectre/
Presonus StudioOne 4.5 Pro i9-9900k Win10 Pro / Kemper Profiler / Bunch of old gear

The one which is superb (in my experience) is this one with 4-band
compression, vitalizer + EQ. The graphics are not quite as good as Ozone, but
the sound is! :tu:

The comments below are not exaggerated - but there is one rule: Don't overdo it.

After much experimenting, I’ve happily settled one StageOne for stereo sculpting.

2cAudio Precedence (https://www.2caudio.com/products/precedence#_Overview) and 2cAudio Vector (https://www.2caudio.com/products/vector#_overview) are extremely good for stereo imaging. The best I have found so far.

Trash 2 is a multiband multi effect. Very versatile 2-step saturator.

BlueCat MB7 is very handy too. Maybe not the cheapest option as a multiband exciter, but it can do so much : it's a real swiss-army knife.

https://www.voxengo.com/product/soniformer/
multi-multi-band stereo image (spectral 32-band mid/side.)
Voxengo Varisaturator is dual-band and has a special flavour as well.

and +1 for Wavesfactory spectre, i love it.
I also love voxengo warmifier. I used the two the most on vocals. (also use izotope neutron exciter.)

there's also https://klevgrand.se/products/gaffel if you're feeling adventurous and splitting your own shit.

I feel you about izotope.
I bought MPS3 mostly if not exclusively for:
- Ozone Imager
- Ozone Maximizer
- Neutron Exciter
- Neutron Transient Designer (i love the fact that it's multiband, it's awesome for emphasing bass or taming harsh peaks)
- Nectar 3 (mostly because of Harmony module)
- VocalSynth2

i mostly don't touch anything else. Although the side-chaining band-to-band in Neutron EQ is really cool and unique and fun, i just can't fly with it, i use Pro-Q3 instead.

Leapwing StageOne is good, but it's different. I can't say it replaces multiband imaging, because its more of a "stereoizer" effect.
i wouldn't use it as a simple mid/side widener as Ozone Imager.
I'd use CenterOne as one tho, its not multiband. :)

edit: actually sorry dude, StageOne is actually very similar to Imager's "Stereoize II" algorithm. I just forgot it's there because i rarely use it.

Well, I realize now that Melda MLimiterMB is very close to what you are looking for: each band (up to 6) can undergo compression, expansion, saturation and panning. Bands can be defined by frequency (as usual), by spectral energy (strong vs. weak spectral components) or by splitting the sound into transients and "not-transients". I like it very much!

panning is not m/s widening. however MLimiterMB also has m/s so it should technically be able to do split-band widening such as ozone
