How to make that sound...

Hi all,

I'm trying to recreate the bass that comes around the 20 second mark (it's audible before, but lower volume).

Tried doing it in Serum by manipulating the LP filters with envelopes, adding distortion, noise, messing around with other stuff, but can't seem to get there.

Could someone please help me on how to make these kind of sounds?

I've attached a Charlatan preset (FREE VST)
that pretty much nails it.

It's a square with a little saw mixed in. Add unison but no spread.
then you play with the amount of filter modulation at different notes. maybe add key-tracking but probably done with automation

Oops forgot to attach it

Hi CHOOS,

Thank you for the help.
I can't seem to import the fxp into Charlatan for some reason. Any idea why?

Didn't think of key-tracking, that's interesting. I'll definitely try playing with that.

Ok so I filled in some text and highlighted areas in the picture.
The attack of the amp and filter isn't necessary but i didn't like the clicky-ness of it

Awesome, thanks CHOOS!
It's indeed very close to the sound, and is quite simple. I'm guessing in the parts where the bassline hits higher frequencys, is probably the filter cutoff modulation that you were talking about.

How do you approach the process of remaking sounds?

once you start trying to recreate stuff for years you kinda hear it in the sound plus cheating with SPAN (free vst)
to see the harmonics of a sound really helps to see if it'll be fundamentally a saw/square or something else

I tried using SPAN, but I couldn't really tell much from it (very new at this).
Thank you for the tips, I'll keep studying and trying things to get better.

Hope you don't mind if I shoot you a message once in a while with questions.
