If all you experienced is clipping that is "fixed" by just reducing the volume, then there is no reason to rollback the driver.
Have you tried to disable the audio input as I suggested for the realtek asio driver? I remember that even in asio4all, there are instances where you need to disable the audio input in asio4all in order for it to work.

The control panel for the Realtek ASIO driver is really primitive, see screen shot. I think your realtek asio problem is similar to this video (at 11:00-15:00) but there is no gui to disable audio input.
