I demoed this synth as it is on sale atm and very lovely synth with a lot of options and sounds. But a lot of sounds sound a bit hatsh and muffled even when i raise the cutoff and it doesnt sound so bright full even with spread/detune? Maybe im just too spoiled with other synths.... it still is on my hdd and will demo later more cause it hase so many wicked and lovely sounds they just dont sound rich like i want em even after tweaking.
Im also worried about the support? Wasnt it not good in the past?

Yeah, this is very disappointing to discover. Even Surge got this right, and it's very old. Even has a very similar mod system to the "transmod" system. Wish I'd found this out before I bought.EvilDragon wrote: Tue Oct 22, 2019 5:53 am Whatever needs to be done to make it behave like all other synths with regards to modulation range never being erased when you move the control manually, should be done.![]()
Does sound bloody lovely though.

... waiting on this too...
Make sure to send in reports to support. They have confirmed it, but maybe they need to be gently encouraged.

Ok fxpansion, Cypher 2 has been out a long time now. Time to fix the bug that erases modulation settings when tweaking a parameter...

I've given up on Fxpansion. They just take too long to fix stuff. When I recently switched to a new audio machine, I didn't install any of their stuff. Bummer really as I very much like their plugins.

I like the idea behind their stuff but it seems like they lost their innovative streak.
I think they got too ambitious and didn't have the man power to keep up with all the updates. This could be why they merged with Roli..

Not that Roli has any clue about software development either.
I can't install their studio app properly, the latest update for my Seaboard Block doesn't work and throws a weird error on both my machines, updates aren't really coming for Equator (there would be quite some potential in there), their installers don't have any way to define where to put libraries or install the plugins and on their forums they behave as if that would be a major feature to develop.
And hardwarewise that latest thing called "Lumi" left me

Typical overfinanced dot-com-bubble company as far as I can see.
Not sure these two entities help each other much.
Lesson learned, won't put any further hope or money into them if nothing radically changes.
Cheers,
Tom

I agree that there is still lots of potential for Equator and it hasn't been updated since 2018 which is a shame. But at least it works pretty well. Not having a custom install location is absurd of course. I had to manually move it to my VST folder after each update. But the fact is that Cypher and Equator are still two synths that are hard to go without for advanced mpe sound design. Equator is especially great when it comes to the interface for mpe and cypher for the pure depth and capabilities. But yeah hopefully they get some proper attention and updates.ThomasHelzle wrote: Thu Feb 06, 2020 2:50 pm Not that Roli has any clue about software development either.

I've largely given up on Cypher because just about any level of FM wrecks the attack on most notes. The attack phase on notes triggered too close to one another is just f**ked. Angus did address it earlier in the thread as being a trade-off, but I just can't work with it this end. Fired it up recently to see if things have improved, and it still sticks out like a sore thumb. Curious to hear if anyone has techniques for mitigating this or how they've been working around it.

What is the problem? Its an instrument. I don’t complain about my violin that it doesn’t make sounds like a DX7. Out of your example I cannot decipher what you expect it should sound like...

The first half is comparing to the second half. In the first part the notes are close together. In the second half there is a gap between notes. His point is that the fm is instant when there is a gap but there is this ramping up effect you can’t seem to get rid of when notes are played in succession. If I understand correctly.Tj Shredder wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2020 5:41 am What is the problem? Its an instrument. I don’t complain about my violin that it doesn’t make sounds like a DX7. The only thing that's changing in the example is how far apart (in time) the notes are played. Notes with a longer silence between them are fine, notes played with a short silence between produce inharmonic garbage that slowly resolves to the programmed tone over the course of about a second (IIRC the programmed tone here is the init patch with only the FM to osc 1 dial altered).Tj Shredder wrote: Fri Feb 07, 2020 5:41 am What is the problem? Surely I can't be the only person who doesn't consider this to be a feature, in any way desirable or merely 'characterful' behaviour, rather than an outright bug. If Cypher was a hardware synth (or a violin), I'd genuinely believe I'd received a faulty unit and ask for a replacement.
