Thought I might try my hand at some orchestral numbers. Feedback welcome, especially from anyone who specialises in this style. https://soundcloud.com/fc1985/third-reich-orchestral

Very nice. Really evoked a movie image of a tense scene. Like the bomb timer needs to be de-activated or going out a window to hide in a tall building. 007 sort of stuff.

Agree with the above poster. Cool. :tu:

Yeah it does sound a bit like modern classical meets film score. I can picture the conductor going apoplectic. The percussion was well done and authentic sounding. Certainly could be developed more into a longer piece or multiple movements. Nice work.

I'll be posting some of my music soonish.

Interesting. The title is a little disturbing. I think there would be a multitude of
better titles or associations for this track. And yes, it sounds like a cinematic
track, well differentiating between deep strings and high spiccatos. What
string library did you use? It is convincing - and it is fun to listen to!

A good title is provocative and attention grabbing. With that said, I think Vicious Chicken of Bristol is a better title.

I can't listen to the track yet but will update the comment later, I love orchestral stuff.
Signatures are so early 2000s.

If the theme is the Third Reich, I don't see much difference to a documentary about the Third Reich.

indeed, and as artists we have a duty to draw attention to all sides of life. its not all love and roses :D

obviously, if he was lamenting the loss of said failed reich, then theres issues, but its an instrumental piece.

id be more worried if hed called it the 4th or 5th reich :scared:

Thanks for listening guys.

^^ Agreed - I personally don't see what the big deal is regarding the name; it's just a musical take on a sinister point in history which I do not condone at all. As Vurt says life isn't all love and roses - and i happen to think dark subject matter makes for interesting music (imo). Gimme Mars Bringer of War over The Four Seasons any day.

Thanks! Bernard Herman toolkit

Its good. Liked the Bernard Herman toolkit. Was thinking of buying that at Spitifre but went for something else instead.
In regards to the piece, I liked it but felt there was no climax. I think this kind of music comes in waves, and this seemed it didn't and thus lacked some contrast periods.
A great piece of music in this genre (and not too far away from your style) is the soundtrack to Operation Finale.

Great job on this, it sounds like a film score for something sinister as you intended.
As enroe says, it sounds convincing.
Well done! :)

It would probably work as a scoring piece for film, I think the right elements are present and correct, but the ending was a little sudden. It left me expecting something more.

After playing it a couple more times, I thought "This would make a great intro piece for a "prog metal" song. Then that ending would make more sense. Maybe something like Opeth from 15 years ago.

If this is your first attempt at Orchestral, it's very impressive.

Good work :)

Thanks seismic for your input - yes it does end suddenly - I tend to write short songs quickly over several days. I used to spend weeks writing epic numbers which turned out to be throwaways so at least this way I can quickly determine whether something is worth putting in the extra work without wasting time. It is my first proper orchestral track though I’ve written in that style with synths...it just seems to translate better in an orchestral context.
