ok, the Class A version deserves its own thread.

I am totally blown away by this compressor. I'm not sure what else to write. It's such a solid sound and i have hereby cancelled any further searching for a compressor, ever. Probably.
Run a Fender P-Bass through the discrete unit with fast attack, and get the VU needle nudging the -2 mark, man. That's "ph" fat. Sik phat bass. my lord.

best $29.99 i ever spent.
probably

CPU efficient too.

i sold Magic Death Eye and bought Shadow Hills Class A

I bought it for $30 and played with it a little. Two points to keep in mind:
1) It's hard to gain match as both threshold and output controls are discrete.
2) It sounds like by engaging optical section, you're also engaging a LPF.

I wouldn't buy anything called Magic Death Eye, purely on principle.
Yes, I probably miss out on a lot of good stuff. Don't care.
Are you listening, developers?

Magic Death Eye is a really really good compressor.

The 'easter egg mode' is great on bass and kicks too.
but when i loaded up the Class A version of Shadow Hills, i got a similar vibe on my basses, but it sounded even tighter and rumpier. yes that's a word.
It's very punchy.
Tight tight envelopes.
baby

What is this easter egg mode you speak of? (Magic Death Eye)
I bought it in December but haven't really done much with it since.

from the words of the hardware creator, regarding the other algorithm...
When developing the plugin Christian was experimenting with the threshold and sent me a version that had a synthetic algorithm for how the gain reduction behaved. The compressor sounded slightly more aggressive and grabby. Kicks popped out a hair more. It was very cool and we bookmarked it for later. Close to release we decided to slip it in as an option for those who like to randomly click around the user interface. Just an extra bonus and something “a little roguish and a little weird”. You will know when its engaged…Enjoy.

I don't fart but if I did my farts would smell like perfume.
