I also tested Roland cloud. I really preferred the Tal synths over the Roland cloud. Tal-mod covers jx-3p. Also the Arturia Jup-8 isn‘t really bad in direct comparison to Roland cloud. I would really wish a jupiter8 and a Promars from Tal. Or much bether would be, if Arturia will ever rework their synths to accurate emulations, because I have done a lot of patches, and can’t really transfer them into diva.
The legend is my favourite Moog emulation, so I am sure Richard will do it again with OB-Xa.
Would be really cool if he also includes the DSX.
The real-time record could be different layers of the instance.
Hope there will be also a memorymoog and prophet 600. I will buy them all.

Yea, love TAL too and looking forward to this OB-Xa.
I lost my heart in Cap de Creus

prob for the best, there's not much to talk about really.

Based on Synapse’s other work, I’m 99.9% sure my opinion of the OB-Xa will be higher than my opinion of the Roland Clouds Jupiter-8. So once it’s actually out we can get back on topic.

Unless Ingo, ED, or Bones can get permission to post some teaser audio or screen grabs to get this thread back on track.

Understandable. I was just hoping. Anyone want to talk about the Jupiter-8 some more until we have something tangible to talk about? I can start with: "hey, I haven't been able to use the Roland Cloud Jupiter-8 plug-out in two days because even though I'm a subscriber, the authorization system just isn't working! I'm logged into the Cloud Manager, but the Cloud plugins I don't own perpetual licenses for refuse to work. Just had to contact support. Isn't that fun. Yay me for paying!"

Just venting my frustrating. Not really suggesting we discuss that.

The guy from Synapse posted these examples on GS a while back from an early build. First half of each clip is hardware, the second half is the software.

Well, lets take it serious...
It sounds nice but i like the first part a bit more and even that are really simple sounds most stock synths can make right now.

Post

Bear in mind it was a very early build from 2018. But it's the only publicly available example afaik.

Actually no, all parameters are 256 values, so 8-bit. Including cutoff, resonance etc.

Cognition bias, you were told which was which beforehand ;)

Post

Yeah, I found them pretty much indistinguishable. If there is any difference there it's too miniscule to be of any significance.

You're right.. the values are indeed 8 bit, via the GUI. For some reason I remembered only the bi-direction controls were that way, wups.

However, both cutoff and LFO rate were definitely using full 32 bit float values under the hood back in early 2017, and it's a change if they've moved them back to 8 bit. I'm 100% sure because I remember wondering if the pots (on the System 8 ) were using anything higher than 8 bit native res to make use of that when I noticed. Since then Roland have moved to 10 bit on the Zen-core engine, so maybe they dialed it back for System 8 / plugout (that, or it was a code mistake they later corrected)

Post

Oh don't worry all the controls are still 32-bit float, when you use host automation everything is smooth and no stepping. 8-bit values are just used on the GUI, which is also super annoying that they don't do ANY smoothing whatsoever, so it's steppy hell. For crying out loud, adjusting the CH1 FX level creates clicks... it's really not very cool.

Post

How far out are we from a release on this thing? If it's still months away I probably don't need to be checking this thread daily... I'm excited, but not THAT excited!
