It's been two days. Why not wait to see how they handle things now the consumers have spoken?
NI lost their edge years ago, I am mainly using Komplete because I am used to it by now.
This was just the last drop in the bucket.
NI have announced they will no longer activate discontinued products

Many of the alleged crossgrades you're talking about would have been to non-Kontakt, proprietary products. Would you like to explain where the greed comes in with regard to not seeing a need to pay hundreds of dollars to change to a different sample engine, when I could continue using the sample libraries I already owned.dionenoid wrote: Wed Mar 11, 2020 1:24 am Are ppl really complaining about this ? Some long discontinued products and everyone here had the chance to update/crossgrade/upgrade many, many times already. Don't blame NI, blame your own greedy a** for not spending a few bucks for updates for some old products, for at least the last 10 years.![]()
Are you so devoid of intellect that you're arguing that not automatically paying for any crossgrade a company offers, whether you need it or not, is greed?
Are you pretending that crossgrading to a different product would somehow protect you against the library being obsoleted? That the proprietary engine would offer a longer lifespan than the product you were already using?
I guess so. Do you even know how long that crossgrade was actually available, or how much it cost?
Nah.

The EULA seems pretty legally clear cut to me, perhaps a class action suit could be brought against them (after the EU Representative Actions Directive is enacted due to the nature/value of the claim, but the case could be built prior). Let's see how they respond but there are options for recourse even if they'd take some time.
I bought a product, not a lease; you'd have to be pretty stupid to buy from a company who reneges on it's own terms and conditions. I hope they come to their senses, I find it hard to believe they couldn't implement one of the many solutions posited so far, or indeed the one that NI suggested in their EULA (a license key that doesn't require activation).

That would indeed be the most proper solution, but I don't think that would be easy at all.monomaker wrote: Wed Mar 11, 2020 12:49 pm I find it hard to believe they couldn't implement one of the many solutions posited so far, or indeed the one that NI suggested in their EULA (a license key that doesn't require activation).
We are talking about old software that ran old older codebase, using old operating systems. It's not just that they can load the code into their compiler, set it to max Windows XP / Mountain Lion (or whatever) compatibility and export it. It wouldn't surprise me if they don't even have computers around that supports the old compilers. Then take that X all the different products they are axing. I don't see easy at all, I see a bloody nightmare.
When Redmatica got gobbled up by Apple, they released one last version with a special unlock key that doesn't require internet checking. But that was easier because they just ended the support with the last version. Not many many many years later.

ha, clearly the point is that they are unuseable, how did that post make it out of your head? Do you honestly think people want to simply install libraries without ever wanting to use them?EvilDragon wrote: Wed Mar 11, 2020 8:20 amYou can still install them, and after May 31st you'll still be able to install them. They just won't be able to be authorized, so they would either run in demo mode, or not run at all.audiot wrote: Tue Mar 10, 2020 11:29 pmNobody expects lifetime support, but you should be able to install software that you own. And in the case of sample libraries I really dont get it![]()

Funny you should say that, as you've been nothing but wrong in this thread.chk071 wrote: Wed Mar 11, 2020 11:15 am
Lol. I have codec_spurt blocked (only users I have blocked here BTW...), so, I didn't bother to open his reply to me yet.
I didn't say you made things up, by the way. It's just that everyone can be wrong, and, I wasn't sure if you actually tried it. Fair enough.
Your only "solution" left is warez. That alone should disqualify you from ever posting in this topic again.

Go on then, explain 'greed' in terms of 'not buying something I dont need just because it exists'.dionenoid wrote: Wed Mar 11, 2020 1:15 pmThanx for proving my pointwhyterabbyt wrote: Wed Mar 11, 2020 11:27 amnot seeing a need to pay hundreds of dollars to change to a different sample engine, when I could continue using the sample libraries I already owned.dionenoid wrote: Wed Mar 11, 2020 1:24 am Are ppl really complaining about this ? As long as they prevent people to use them, I guess it does. Discontinuing a product just means it will no longer be available for sale. Ending support means company cannot be legally responsible for any problems arising from its use. But preventing people from using the mentioned products?... I don't see how that can be contained in any EULA clauseAnX wrote: Wed Mar 11, 2020 1:26 pmdoes that cover discontinued products tho?noiseboyuk wrote: Wed Mar 11, 2020 9:11 am...means that legally they have to figure something out here.
