NI have announced they will no longer activate discontinued products

I might be special in the sense that I've been constantly burned, but this is my experience-

Wow, awfully similar to mine. I also have a Machine I, Kore Kontrol (/w interface) and Rig Kontrol II - all rendered electro trash for OSX users long before they were getting anywhere close to what was promised. And especially in the case of Kore Kontrol, I simply don't believe them. They could've done firmware updates so it'd be compatible with Komplete Kontrol or something. Well, unless firmware updates weren't possible - in which case it would've been a huge flop to start with already. Which it obviously was. Similar for Machine. I mean, that thing is fully functional - but all you can get from it these days is to use it as a plain MIDI controller.

Yep lesson learned, don't buy hardware from them, and don't expect anything to last more than 5 years on your OS. I can hardly blame Apple for this because NI don't support audio cards with the Kore 1 or Rig Kontrol chips in it on either platform, the dropping of MIDI functionality in Control Center is just plain lazy on their part.
Kontakt is indispensable at this point, most of my orchestra libraries are Kontakt based. but it's weird to have a company with so much potential make you feel so often like you're just a number to them, a source of income and that's it.
Most other people in this industry are pretty dedicated to the idea of music first, then profit, so they support older soft and hardware, not NI. M-Audio, Behringer and NI all make some good stuff, but I don't love their business practices or trust them, at all.

In general I'm over buying software driven MIDI products, if a controller can't work on its own without a computer to generate basic MIDI CC's etc. then I'm not going to buy it. It's burned me a few times in the past.

I like the build quality of their hardware. The problem is their thinking is narrow! I have maschine mikro which is not usable outside of maschine software! No function in Linux at all. Almost the same is about the M32 keyboard. Now, massive X is a wonderful synth but no midi learn comes to hunt you. Why all those restrictions?!
Anyway, their latest announcement is like the straw that broke the camel's back! I don't care about the 15 years I spent with their products. I have my divorce now! And Free at last! Let's face the new world, a world without NI

To get back to the question of NI deciding to stop the authorisation of the older products...

The EULA that their legal representatives drew up at that time was very clear....

It's all there in black and white..

There's no need for further interpretation in that agreement and there's no room for compromise...

It clearly state that they will provide working keys to the registered users in order to keep the software running...

So that is what they are legally bound to do...

But let's see what they really do here

A promise to look into it is not a resolution. At least NI now realizes that leaving customers stranded is not a good solution so at least something good came out of all this. I'll just keep checking in to see what they have decided to do.

And this shows the value of letting people vent their frustrations rather than stifling any negative discussion.

Who knows if there will be an amicable solution but the point has been made and the message has been received.

I am not surprised at this new info from NI... I have never viewed them as unreasonable. What to make of this? Only time will tell. There are many products that MOST of us want to use, when and where we see fit, down the road.

Only a few products I owned were affected. Still, I use them regularly enough to have warranted some fear (not Covid-19 fear mind you).

Yeah I think it is sad how people are trashing them so bad. They make pretty big donations every year to the charity auction we have here and seem like nice people to me. I think we all should be a lot more civil.
