UVI Falcon alternatives?

i already have analogue hardware so i am looking for a nice VST for organic airy natural sounding atmospheres. Maybe something that can take samples.

i have Wavestation VST, which is great for atmospheres, but has more of a glossy/polished sound to it.

UVI Falcon seems great for this, especially some of the packs you can buy for it (namely Atmospherics)! but i think thing may mostly be marketing really.

Two problems with Falcon - iLok and the 350 price tag.

So... any nice alternatives out there that spring to mind?

Try Rob Papen Blue II, or Tone2 Icarus.

The obvious alternatives to Falcon for samplers-with-knobs-on (Kontakt and Halion) aren't much cheaper, but I'd suggest you have a look at Arturia Pigments. It's really powerful without needing 1000 screens and it now supports wavetable and sample import.

Are you safe?

Anything that has multiple layers, ideally with some sampler / granular oscillators:
- Halion 6
- Omnisphere
- Pigments
- Rapid
- VPS Avenger

Baulks at Falcon pricing.

*Suggests Omnisphere*

Pigments is really kind of a "mini Falcon". :) I like both.

The only bad thing about Pigments (and I have suggested this to Arturia for fixing) is the inability to select the user folder. That makes re-installs and sample relocations much harder. Falcon has a superb solution for this. Also Falcon has much more synthesis options. But Pigments is way more intuitive to control.

Choice is yours. :)

Falcon is often on sale and often with a 100 voucher for further UVI expansions, also occasionally in buy and sell...ilok is not an issue for me (much better than the system some of the other use, like Avenger!)

Falcon has pretty much replaced Kontakt for me and can handle anything from modular type synths to orchestral scoring, drum machines to VA duties!

I think I paid about 220 + got a 100 voucher...it is worth the asking price. It is my 'if I could only have one' synths, and I have all of the other alternatives mentioned.

Because price is usually* not a problem, just a challenge you need to overcome by either prioritising your spending, saving or earning more money (or all at once, ideally).

* "usually" because it's plausible OP is from a country where they make $50 a month or he's a kid and gets allowance from their parents, etc.

Can always use symbolic links for this sort of thing when the plugin is stubborn in providing user folder options.

Plugin Guru Unify. Stack anything with anything in one user interface. Comes with its own library of sounds too.

I haven't used Biotek 2 but from what you're describing it may be worth a look.

interesting....

Pigments has my interest. Does it (or Falcon) have realistic string/brass/woodwind samples?

Post

Pigments is a synth first and foremost, not a gigabytes-laden ultra-detailed sample library.
