And for the size! That mammoth gaming laptop with slide-out keyboard looked bloody ridiculous and STILL couldn't compete!

Lol. That sounds very much like you - "I need", "I want", "They better"DJ Warmonger wrote: âTue Mar 31, 2020 7:43 am They better do, I need to get one this year. And I want to be able to do usual job and music with it.
No matter the technology, laptops will always be less performant (than desktops) due to power & thermal envelopes so you have to be realistic about your expectations.

I have just bought a new laptop month ago. DAMN I'm pi**ed. It's still good and slim and quick, but compare to this, it just wasn't a good investment.
Though, I'd wait a bit anyway. You want to see some real world DPC latency benchmarks before you dive in. Also I'm not sure if Asus was a good choice for the exclusive initial release partner. They have some serious trouble with qualitty control lately. I had to return one fo their laptops because of serious coil whine last year and I'm reading big horror stories about it across their whole line up including their previous GA502 Ryzen model.
...but yeah. It's envy talking out of me, I know.

we shall see. I have always been an AMD guy just because I am always rooting of the underdog. I believe since the Athlon years. My current work lappy I opted for Ryzen 7 pro instead of Intel 7. its working fine.
It's always been the same with AMD, you do get a little less performance but the price is a lot less than Intel comparable. My experience with the Ryzen line has been so so. The marketing is really hyped like crazy but the performance is still sort of the same old ADM experience. Its still a decent deal compared to opting for a Intel based product .
I don't know enough about the specifics to audio application performance to comment of whether AMD is or isn't a superior alternative for that use. My guess is, its sort of same as they are all consumer based CPUs.

Maybe good for Hackintosh, too. But FullHD only, and you will have to swap WLAN card.

There's 1440p panel at 60Hz refresh, which I think it's sufficient for 14'' screen.Hanz Meyzer wrote: âTue Mar 31, 2020 1:41 pm Maybe good for Hackintosh, too. But FullHD only, and you will have to swap WLAN card.
Also lots of DAWs still can't handle high-DPI for their GUI and VSTs (Cubase), so 1080p is the 'safer' option. I got a 1080p 144Hz panel on my laptop last year just because of that and I think it was a good choice. Sure, retina/high-DPI screens do look better in general even on a small screen, but below 27'' I think they're more problematic than beneficial for music making / DAWs.

It's only a matter of time before Apple drops Intel and goes AMD ... Unless they have some sort of contract obligation to Intel . AMD whooping some Aaaaaaaazzzzzzz right now . It really benefits the consumer .

Unless you just bought a laptop.
Though to be honest, I don't like that G14. Just one m2 slot, half a RAM soldered on board and at notebookcheck they noticed quite a big power draw when idling, cutting the advertised 10 hours almost in half. I'm kinda bamboozled they haven't released 15 inch Razer-like beast with this CPU inside. That would intersect so many user needs it's almost scary.

tech pages buzzing heavy with this lately. somehow even outperforming desktop variants?!? That Lisa Su lady said a long time ago; 'we're taking on the competition on all fronts and in every segment'... bla bla bla is what it sounded like to me. Desktops, on some price points yes. Servers maybe. Mobile? PFCHTKKKK. Just get me a power DAW cpu and i'm happy.
