"This has all the features of the original Fairlight CMI including 16 stereo voices, full voice editing and realtime control, harmonic additive synthesis, full Page R sequencer and much more.

QasarBeach is designed to replicate the Fairlight CMI IIx. In this it follows very closely to the UI, the operation and also the command line interface. It then takes these concepts and expands on them giving you 16 voices,
stereo or mono samples plus a range of sample imports from 8bit to 24bit uncompressed samples, plus the ability to load in any Fairlight I, II, IIx and III sample voices."

This looks great, thank you! And on Itch.io to boot.

Cool! But it doesn't have any of the samples included, correct?

I take it they mean the samples here in this sentence:
"You just need to have the ORIGINAL files in .VC format."

Just in case...

That is correct, but you can download the original CMI IIX factory Library in .VC format here: [plus more] and load into QasarBeach:

Im not entirely clear on this either. He says something about needing original files, yet in another post he responded "The complete library is in qasarbeach.zip", which obviously means the 'series2x' folder.

Also this 'Original CMI IIX Library v1.4' from the link in the post above seems more than a little suspect. It is full of files whose names start with 'DELETED', yet there are sounds in them. They are also all over the place with regard to registers, and some of them are cleary defective, both the WAV and the VC variants. So to me it is unimaginable that this could be what was actually installed on the original machine, simply because the whole thing is in such a bad condition. (After all this thing cost a fortune, so thats not exactly what i would expect.) Some clarifying info would be appreciated.

Thanks for the heads-up about the files on R-Massive concerning the "Original CMI IIX Library v1.4", I have forwarded your concern to R-Massive :) [As mentioned is the full archive available in the Facebook group] :)

QasarBeach is still under development and is the best option for a CMI Fairlight emulation anno 2020 in my opinion. :)

I've been following this since a very early version was mentioned in a Facebook group. The dev has added several improvements and fixed several issues in an update posted today. But from what I've seen so far, there are no plans to make a VST version. I think I saw somewhere that the coding or overall design wouldn't even allow it.

The app is mainly to re-create the experience of working with a Fairlight CMI--right down to using the keys on your computer keyboard to load "Pages" and do other things. Some DAWs and hosts intercept computer keyboard letter/number presses, and don't forward them to the VSTi, so that in itself could be a problem. Still, this is a pretty cool app.

The dev said that making a VSTi version of QB is technically impossible so that would be a no.

As to the Factory Library, some of us are not on facebook so it would be great if a link could be posted here so that we can get it too.

(Of course any other good stuff would be appreciated as well, but to me the original FacLib is the most important.)

Thanks.

@decaystar posted links to plenty of Fairlight CMI sample libraries, including the original one(s) that came with the CMI II. Some of the libraries are incomplete (at best), and some of the samples are corrupt (at worst). I've tested many of these with Arturia's CMI V, and can confirm this. But you can obviously just delete anything you don't want or which doesn't work.

Here's the relevant part of @decaystar's post:

Oh, ok then. I think its time to use standalone only audio apps.
A question, it is 32 bit or 64 bit ? Im still a 32 bit user.
