Ryzen 3900X build. Anything I should be looking out for?

Spec ordered is -
Ryzen 3900X
ASUS ROG Strix B450-F motherboard
Corsair Vengeance LPX 2666 - 32GB
Various internal and external SSD's and platter storage.
Will run on board GPU for now, but might add something later if 4k video editing becomes problematic.
Will be a clean install of W10 Pro
Interface is RME UFX. I'm sure their drivers are on point.
I noticed that Scan were pushing out Ryzen as their top of the range audio machines now and the 3900x seems like insane power for the money, as well as looking like it destroys the i9 9900k for real world (not gaming) applications.
Anybody had any issues with a similar setup? I've been running Intel for years, but I can't ignore that much power for that little money.

Hi,
Running i9 9900k scan system here.
Cross core latency appears to be the issue with 3900x. So lots of tasks small enough for a ryzen 3900x core to cope with may be viable.
I can't consider AMD due to TC Powercore issues
So for any channel in your DAW if the single core requirement can be met by AMD then this looks viable.

Dedicated GPU is a certainty, but I will just get the machine built for now.
As for waiting for the next awesome CPU, I've been building PC's for over 20 years and there's ALWAYS something better on the horizon. I need the machine today.
I have a GTX970 in another machine I might transplant into this DAW build. Should be plenty for some light 4k work.

From what I have read that cross core latency on AMD isn't a concern if you install fast ram that is clocked properly as per Scan Audio reports. I just did a a system build for friend on a 3950x Ryzen. Everything worked well including Universal Audio cards including solo, duos and quads. When he ordered the ram kits that I recommended the vendor swappped them for something slower. Regardless I tested it for 2 weeks under heavy load. Even with the less effective ram, low latency support was superior to my current Intel 3930K rig that I have here and I commonly track 16 or more tracks through effects at 64 samples. That thing is a monster.
I was just about to build my system and Covid hit so I postponed and I am waiting the 4000 series.

Hmmm, well I ordered some LPX @ 2666mhz. Worst case scenario would be to replace it with some 3600mhz if I hit any issues, as per the Scan Ryzen builds.

I'm in virtually the exact same situation. I'm having a hard time justifying spending that much more money for a 3950 though I can if I need to. I'll be running a clean windows 10 pro install as well.

I’m probably leaning towards a Ryzen 3600. I think that will be sufficiently superior to bother upgrading, and overall, powerful enough for what I do.
3900x is pretty awesome though. Nice choice.

I've read of Nvidia cards causing DPC latency spikes on some laptops. I don't know if the same happens for desktops.
If it does in your case, track down a 2nd hand ATI 7000 or R9 or RX series.

The ASUS ROG Strix B450-F VRM is weak for the 3900X
https://docs.google.com/spreadsheets/d/ ... =639584818
You will need to place the case TOP fans trowing air at the motherboard VRMs.
The MSI B450 Tomahawk MAX is cheaper, but with better VRMs(not ideal, but ok-ish with *good* airflow) and 32MB BIOS chip for upgrade to the Ryzen 4000 series.

X570 VRM test with 3900X and *BAD* airflow around VRMs.

Get the best CPU cooler you can find, Ryzen 3000 CPU MAX temperature is
75ºC for 24/7, get something like Noctua NH-D15, Dark Rock Pro 4 or a Fuma 2.

Ryzen likes faster RAM http://www.scanproaudio.info/2019/07/30 ... an-impact/
But if you got good 2666MHz chips like Samsung B-die or Micron E-Die
probably you will be able to overclock the RAM to 3600MHz.
I like the Crucial(Micron E-die) https://uk.pcpartpicker.com/product/33W ... g36c16u4bl

Thanks for all the good information.
To clarify, I have absolutely no interest or plans to overclock. I won't be messing with voltages or clock speeds, ever.
As for the Asus motherboard being weak, well it was going to be a delayed delivery anyway so I've changed it to the MSI motherboard instead, so thanks for that!
The other alteration i'll probably make is sending the 2666 RAM back and ordering some 3600 RAM instead. I'll see how it goes once I install it.
