Upcoming Synapse OB-Xa: Obsession

There are enough Minimoog emulations out there and it's so easy to program it's less of a big deal, but I understand the point. I think Minimoog my mind goes straight to funk basses of the 70s and 80s, 80s pop bass and lead sounds (think Madonna's first two records, West End Girls bass, etc.), Dr. Dre's The Chronic synth basses and the triangle gangsta lead sound, classic rock synth leads, etc. None of it's even remotely hard to program, but if you said "classic Minimoog patches" that's what I'd expect to find inside. Not the flute and violins from the original patch sheets. Not some crazy tricked sequence with all kinds of modulators and a vowel filter or anything like that.

Once again you make my point better than I could.
But yes THIS!..

And I think NI and u-he gets that but thus far Synapse hasn't, imho.

They were reprogrammed by me from the patch sheets in the Minimoog patch book by Klaus P. Rausch and with his permission.

Do you own Monark?
If you do and listen to the factory presets they would do a much better job than I ever could.

They remind me nothing of them.....
I open Monark and I am right back there.

It is for reasons like this I have been trying to cajole, beg Big Tone and Himalaya to do a Legend bank.

Like you said none of them are hard to program so you shouldn't be missing them at all...

Some people say they never use factory patches, others complain when they are not catered to their own personal desires. Some days you can't win......

The key point is that's what you would expect to find while others may expect to find the patches that were found in the original patch sheets.

I didn't say don't include them. But the point zvenx is making is about the synth's iconic sounds.

The sounds I described are the iconic Minimoog sounds heard in the songs that made the synth famous. Not necessarily the single triangle osc flute patch from the patch sheets. Now, some synths may have some factory patches may have become iconic over the years, like the Prophet-5 Sync Lead patch, but in the case of the Minimoog...yeah, those factory patch sheet sounds aren't the ones you heard on classic recordings.

If you're recreating a Minimoog, or other classic synth, you're essentially paying homage to the past are you not? And in doing so, it makes sense to include patches that represent some of those iconic sounds. What are the iconic Minimoog sounds...not "Flute" or "Cello" from the factory sound bank. Don't recall hearing those on many records.

I couldn't find them and I am pretty sure I went thru all the presets that came with Legend...


But yes nothing to do with OBsession, which some of us don't have yet
I am just hoping a different approach was done re: preset choices with Obsession.

Well, apart from jump, I dont know a single "classic obxa sound" maybe that Tom sawyer rez drop, but only from YT vid, never heard the song

never played one in my life either....

its a piss simple synth, so no reason for anyone with even a basic understanding of synthesizers to not make their own sounds (same with Legend)

Programming is just not some people's come of tea, whether that fits in with your ethos or not.
Fortunately since many/most synth developers accept that, they sell their products with presets.

they do, but some ppl (ie you) don't like them, so maybe some ppl should make an effort to learn how to program their own sounds, then maybe they wouldn't come across as whiny bitches on public forums
