I did notice the name "himalaya" on the forum, but didn't see him post anything, so assumed he was making factory sounds..... but haven't seen any (unless he used his real name, whatever that is)
BT also seemed to be lacking in the preset department....

Honestly this is some of the dumbest shit I've read in a long time. They're not famous to him, they're famous. There is a Minimoog sound that most people know and I suspect you know it too and are just getting off by being obtuse in a forum. Anyone who has a passing interest in vintage synthesizers knows these sounds. Anyone who had ears in the 70s and 80s knows this sound. If you didn't have ears in the 70s and 80s but have them now and have heard songs from the 70s and 80s you know this sound. Its been all over all sorts of records for 40-something years. What you care about is irrelevant.Teksonik wrote: Mon Jun 15, 2020 8:43 pmFamous...to youFunkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Mon Jun 15, 2020 8:35 pm
So you don't know any of the wildly famous Minimoog sounds
Because I don't care about what other people think is "famous".....never have.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Mon Jun 15, 2020 8:35 pmWhy your arguing about whether or not they're actually famous is beyond me.
But hey if you want other people to tell you what to think then by all means knock yourself out.![]()

Really? I thought it was incredibly immature. The reason Ingo has so many presets in the factory bank is because it's been all but impossible for anyone else to get a word in edgeways. He has sought to dominate every discussion on the subject and, no doubt, bombarded Rich with emails as well. To be fair, I think that has come out of his unbridled enthusiasm for the product, not because he's a dick or anything. I have tried to stay out of it but I understand completely why Dave is so pissed off, although I think he has also been pretty immature in his response to the situation. But I definitely get it and the best OBSession presets I've heard are some of the ones Dave has posted here, that were never in the factory bank, so his complaint is not without merit.Calenberger wrote: Mon Jun 15, 2020 1:25 pmOne of the coolest reactions I've seen here.Ingonator wrote: Mon Jun 15, 2020 12:27 pm One reason why AnX (aka Kriminal) is p**sed off might be that i currently got more than 100 factory presets and AFAIK he got around 0....![]()
By the way, I really like your Monark presets.

Your world of adults is illusory. It's the one that withdrew Gone With the Wind, Little Britain and an episode of Fawlty Towers from streaming services because the very thought that someone might mistake Fawlty Towers for a factual programme means a joke about Germans is completely unconscionable. It is not a world most of us accept, it is one that is foisted upon us, despite our objections.ariston wrote: Mon Jun 15, 2020 1:03 pmThe world of adults that I live in doesn't resort to calling other people names like a child throwing a tantrum after dropping his ice cream onto the footpath. Must be a different world you're living in.
Sarcasm is obviously lost on you, then.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Mon Jun 15, 2020 1:24 pmRemember recently when it was asked why every thread becomes the Bones show? Your response was something like they're jealous of my #1 record
Nobody and why should they? It's not like I made a fuss about it, which kind of shows that your whole assessment is completely wrong.(quick poll: who knows anything about that, follow up: who actually cares).
There is a pretty simple solution to that - people need to stop saying idiotic things. Again, an adult would see that, re-read what they had said and either try to rephrase their point so it made sense or see where/why they may have made themselves look like an idiot. But not here. Here people prefer to double down on their idiotic beliefs and leave no doubt as to their idiocy. What pretty much never happens is that they respond to the substance of my comment with an intelligent, thoughtful reply.A big part of the actual reason is how frequently you call people you disagree with idiots.
There is no greater example than my ongoing crusade against Moog's ladder filter. I can provide irrefutable evidence of its (significant) shortcomings, people can agree that yes, it goes to shit as you turn the resonance up, but they still won't discard their belief that it's a great filter. What can you call people like that other than "idiots"?
If I wanted to call anyone "names", I wouldn't be using words like "idiot". Idiot has a dictionary meaning and I use it in that context only. If I called someone a complete fucktard, I could understand them taking exception but when someone takes exception to being called an idiot, I have to wonder if, deep down, they aren't worried that that's exactly what they are.If you could manage to express your otherwise well thought out opinions, without calling other people names in the process
We each have the power to decide what we ignore and what we take on board. You can call me whatever you like and I won't give a shit. As you point out, I don't know you and you sure as hell don't know me, so why would it matter what we call each other? If someone told me that something I posted made me look like an idiot, which is overwhelmingly how I phrase things, I'd want to take steps to address that but when it's nothing but a personal attack, it's water off a duck's back. I don't know how it can be otherwise. But around here the opposite happens - they ignore the substance of the post and concentrate on the personal aspect, even when it is the very mildest rebuke. Honestly, it is pathetic. Some rando on a forum calling a bunch of people he never met idiots deserves to have his posts deleted because that type of trolling turns every thread into a sh*tshow.

I buy a synth that sounds good, I don't care if it sounds like some ancient pile of krap or not. i.e. I don't like OBSession because it sounds like an OB-Xa, I like it because it sounds great and effects just enhance it. e.g. What's a string ensemble patch without a chorus/ensemble effect? You are going to use one every, single time so why not have it built into the synth? Roland did it all the time in the 80s.electro wrote: Mon Jun 15, 2020 2:03 pmDo you buy a OB-Xa emulation to sound like an OB-Xa, or to sound like every synth under the sun?

Famous to who ? "Most people" ? Do you know "most people" and have they given you permission to speak for them ? There are 7.5 Billion people on Earth. How many do you think give hoot about the MiniMoog let alone know what patches you think are "famous".
In the end every sound the MiniMoog ever made is "famous" because some people like the songs they were in and let's be honest you could count on a few hands the number of distinct sounds the MiniMoog can make without being post processed by producers.
So unless you talked to every single person on Earth who even knows what a MiniMoog is and asked them what their favorite patches are then no you don't get to define famous.
What you consider famous is irrelevant.
Take the example of the "Jump" patch discussed here. I have seen it called "a crap sound from a crap song" in this very thread.
But it's about the only patch the OB could make that anyone can name.
Is it because of the patch or because it was used in a song that sold a million copies ?
Don't confuse "famous patch" with "popular song".....

I've met enough musicians over the years who've told me about how their record is "the number 3 dark metal album in Sweden" with a straight face that forgive me for thinking you may have been doing the same. I certainly wouldn't put that type of thing past you.
I missed the sarcasm noted above. That portion of my post was wrong. I've also been wrong in the past about other things and will be again in the future. I am not infallible. I freely admit this and never claimed otherwise.BONES wrote:Nobody and why should they? It's not like I made a fuss about it, which kind of shows that your whole assessment is completely wrong.
But maybe you're also not great as great as you think you are at conveying sarcasm.
You know it can suck at high resonance bass sounds and still be good at other things right? Like maybe high resonance bass sounds aren't a sound we all want all the time, but maybe it sounds amazing for lower resonance bass sounds. Like most synth basslines of the 70s to miss 80s. Or maybe that particular resonance trait works well on other sources where you won't need as much bass in the mix like certain lead sounds. No one's saying that the Moog ladder filter doesn't lose bass at high resonance. It does. Where you get into arguments is by not understanding that your opinion on the overall quality of the filter is an "irrefutable fact." Other people may still love the sound of it for other reasons. It's like saying Ferraris are terrible cars because you can't fit your luggage in the trunk. Like ok.... Yeah, that may not be a thing they do well. But if you're buying one, it obviously shouldn't be for the trunk space. If you want a high res bass sound that holds the bottom, you don't use a Moog filter. That one trait isn't the only criteria by which all filters are judged.BONES wrote:There is no greater example than my ongoing crusade against Moog's ladder filter. But you do use the word crusade and maybe that's what this is. Crusades aren't about logic.
One guy argues today that if he doesn't know someone then they're not famous (fame is not opinion, not personally recognizing something is famous doesn't mean it's not - just means you didn't know it) and another guy is arguing about the irrefutable fact that the filter he has negative opinion of isn't anything more than his opinion. Not recognizing Donald Trump wouldn't mean he's not famous, it would mean you didn't recognize a famous person. Not liking the Moog filter doesn't make it an irrefutable fact that the Moog filter is bad to anyone other than you. The former example is not an opinion, the latter example is.

Also Bones, the words f*cktard and idiot are synonyms. Calling someone either is saying the same thing. So come up with a better excuse as to why you should regularly be allowed to call anyone here an idiot or just drop that one particular argument from your schtick in the future.

Staw men all over this thread. If bones and anx are allowed to serially insult others, we should all be allowed. If we are not, then neither should they be.
I would personally prefer it if we all had to be civil. Not the case? Then bring it on, I don't need protection from them.

Indeed, and that's a bad omen for that (to be honest: somewhat redundant) synth.miloszz wrote: Tue Jun 16, 2020 5:54 am Every time I check in on this thread to see if the synth released it's gotten 10 pages longer and 10 times dumber.

I'm pretty sure everyone agreed that a new thread will be created for when it's actually out in order to let this one die. Then we can actually talk about the product for a few good pages worth of posts (in total, not consecutive) before that one completely devolves too.
