but my old laptop just can't keep up :)
But for lightweight even on a 15 year old system Synth 1 can't be beat (not to be confused with Sylenth 1).
+1

Sounds good, tons of presets, uncomplicated. But there are some problems running it on modern OSs.

See here, MacOS thing I assume.

The question is how future proof it is when used in projects you want to access 5 years later.

Oh Mac....I thought you said Modern OS.... :hihi:

All kidding aside Synth 1 has been working here since 2002 (I think that is when it was first released) in everything from WinXP to Win 10.

Now granted I don't use it in projects these days but once in awhile I'll still call it up and have a play. Still works perfectly for that. :tu:

But either way it doesn't get much more lightweight than Synth 1. I think I first ran it on a Duron 850.

Perhaps one could try some older gems. HG Fortune stuff? This just came to mind ... very inspiring.

Sylenth1, not to be confused with anything else.

There are a lot of great new plugins, but my old laptop just can't keep up :)

What's you're favorite cpu light synths?
From what i own,
for poly, unison - Zebra2, Dune 3
for mono sequences/arps with no unison, no notes overlapping really any synth will be lightweight on CPU: Diva, Serum, Massive X, Repro 1 etc etc etc

Off the top of my head:

- Parawave Rapid
- Sonic Academy Ana 2
- Synapse Audio Dune 3 (this is probably lighter than sylenth1)
- Melda MSoundFactory

That's the few I can attest that I can run multiple instances with no issues. I'm sure there's others
While having ANA 2 as my favorite synth, I don't think it qualifies as lightweight. I think modern wavetable synth are mostly medium-weight (by design).
Also a lot of stuff is happening on the Rapid UI, it can't be lightweight.

Lightweight are (for instance)
TAL synths
Sylenth1

I forgot that I have also had good luck, CPU-wise, with Rob Papen Go2.

Dune 3 uses less CPU than the sylenth
