Windows laptops with reliable DPC latency and overall reliable seems to be an extremely difficult task for companies to get right.

I'm also in the market for a new laptop and have already put more than half a year of research on this task. Currently I'm leaning on going the same way I went 6 years ago.. Clevo/Sager custom configured stuff.

XMG seems to be the current most reliable dealer in Europe of this brand.. and they have their own audio guy who is at the moment going through the latest line of laptops to check for problems and suggest driver optimizations to the company. We'll see how it turns out..

I guess at least Dell have publicly acknowledged that they have a problem (Assuming you google around)
X32 Desk, i9 PC, S49MK2, Studio One, BWS, Live 12. PUSH 3 SA, Osmose, Summit, Pro 3, Prophet8, Syntakt, Digitone, Drumlogue, OP1-F, Eurorack, TD27 Drums, Nord Drum3P, Guitars, Basses, Amps and of course lots of pedals!

Yup- it comes full of bloatware but I don't want to delete anything until the laptop is fixed. If you delete the MAX stuff the headphone socket stops working as its used to determine what you plug in, but its a real PITA. The 'Killer' Wifi card is the same- comes with software that isn't even supported by the vendor anymore!

There are a lot of posts about how bad the MAXX drivers/software are: https://www.dell.com/community/XPS/XPS- ... -p/6013794

Problem is I have Dell business support and they told me if I use any drivers other than the official Dell drivers (often outdated when I have cheeked on the vendors web site) then they don't support it...

Hmm... I wonder why it's so difficult where you're from. Here in Germany, it's money back, or immediate exchange of the device in the first month after you bought it. Every online store does that really.

Why didn't you mention which model Dell laptop you bought?

There's tons of differences between the different series that vendors offer -- just saying "Dell sucks" or "ASUS is good" is a severe oversimplification that's foolish to live by. I've had successes and failures with every vendor at some point, including Apple. The Dell XPS series has been one of the more reliable ones and my next laptop will be a Dell XPS 17. My current XPS 9650 has an average DPC latency when idle at around 40 microseconds.

Always, *ALWAYS* format a new Windows laptop and install a fresh OS yourself by booting from an install drive, you can circumvent so many problems with this, especially DPC latency problems / driver issues.

Xps 15-7590 (9th Generation Intel Core i7-9750H to 4.5Ghz) 1TB SSD, 32 Meg RAM, Gtx 1650, Win Pro

My latency is very low for about 10 minutes, then spikes to 5000us, but as I get a BSOD/SSD not fitted error once a day I ant bothered with too this much.

Back up the OS complete with all the Dell adware - drivers etc.

Format and install the latest windows.

Re-try.

If it still crashes reinstall from the backup and get a refund.

My new HP repeatedly crashed until I removed all their junk and installed plain ole windows on it.

Been fine ever since.

Before moving to Mac I had a 'top of range' Dell laptop that had constant DPC problems, they sent engineers out to replace various parts within warranty, I tried wiping the drive then reinstalling Windows but eventually after a couple of years they decided to replace it with a newer model. That didn't have the same DPC problems but by then I'd decided to move to Mac anyway as it was a pain trying to integrate my iPad with a Windows laptop for music.
