Someone somewhere needs to set up a site about the rules of how each developer works. This kind of issue dominates a good 50% of the posts on KVR (most of the rest are just angry people shouting at one another).

Native Instruments have a whole bunch-o idiosyncrasies, that newbies or anyone who hasn't been paying close attention needs to know before buying anything from them. They've been pretty fixed now for years, but they're quite complex in NI's case. Once you know them, you can effectively game the system to your advantage, and get the most bang for your buck It's with the caveat that they can change their rules any time they like.

I'll confess I think even I forgot the one about boxed upgrade grace periods, which I'm pretty sure happened last time - it's a bit high risk as you need to find what you need in physical stock. I remembered the 9 month rule though - Komplete usually debuts in Sept / Oct, with the first half-price sale 9 months later. I'd already taken a look at my upgrade from 12U and figured this was a pretty good deal to go to CE at half price next June. Then when the boxed upgrades started popping up with a grace period, I bought pretty much instantly, knowing this was going to be a genuinely patchy and time-limited deal.

But yeah, one of the NI rules is if you buy new in a grace period, you don't get any early access to the parts that are already available. C'est la vie, that's how they do things.

Spectrasonics, say, by contrast is a really easy one - no discounts ever, no grace periods until a new product is announced. So if you see any specific retailer deals, get 'em.

But if some kind soul was so-minded, setting up a little site with all this info would be invaluable to the community, and 50% of posts could just say "GO HERE".

That did not happen.
Each of the last few versions has had one "big update": Guitar Rig, Kontakt, Reaktor, Battery. The exception is Komplete 10, but that one added a lot of instruments.

^ Right, and not to forget addition of Massive X in Komplete 12.

While Komplete 13 Ultimate and CE is amazing, especially if you are new to Komplete ecosystem, Komplete 12 (in general) is probably the best and most impressive update/upgrade so far. It is (was) compelling enough for anyone stuck at K8-11 to update/upgrade. If there was no grace period offer and all, I think I would have been satisfied with Komplete 12 Ultimate and would have waited for Komplete 14.

That omission was intentional

Don't believe.

Oh, so you are in the opposite party.

Surprised to hear NI and Neural guitar plugs being compared. Both great tools respectively!

tbh it's not impossible to have 1 serial number for entire bundle and allow download of all stuff available in K12 where other stuff from K13 would be "unavailable until x date". Native Access is more than capable to have such functionality

Post

Yeah, it wouldn't be impossible. Impossible is trying to do the impossible though (activating and using the bundle before it is released).

Damn, like trying to explain things to the 5 year old who can't wait for Christmas.

It's only impossible because it's developer choice. K12 should be available until K13 is released.
But then I suppose that it's still possible to buy K12 from somewhere else than NI website.

It is, I bought the upgrade to K12, I can instal all the items of K12 without waiting. If you bought K13 upgrade, and do not own K12, I see no reason to give the person with the K13 upgrade special access to servers with K12 products not updated in K13 that they currently do not own for whatever version of Komplete they have, if they upgraded.

They give you a drive with all the stuff in Komplete on it. I just can't see how it would be worth it for them to track all the variations of what you own and don't own, to send out early serials so you can access things that do not require the drive, or to clog up their servers with people accessing the content directly trying to access stuff early.

It's a convoluted mess, and if you do not think so, great, but acting butt hurt about it isn't worth bringing up, much less arguing about. It's not even in the realm of bad company behavior.
"Company X offers a huge discount on all their products, you have to wait to access them though." OMG! :dog:

Well I'm not the one who bought K13. I'm still on K12 because K13 have no value to me. I just commented that it's possible to manage such system that you mentioned in 2nd paragraph. All of this is already in Native Access. Every plugin has its registration, as a single or bundle. In different cause it could be really convoluted but with apps like Native Access or Waves Central most of the job is already happening. It would be just another option, not new system build from 0.

But whatever. I see that folks here live in a world "everything is difficult, hard and impossible". Oh well, no point to talk about possibilities here with anyone

Top be clear, I was addressing the general gripe not you. You're intentionally leaving out that NI attempt to deliver Komplete on an SSD though. It would be easy, if NI had access to super cheap servers that worked fantastically, if everything was in the cloud™ then this would be easier. Obviously NI still believe that sending a drive is cheaper than expensive server access.

To a different point, this is still a capitalism, people who upgrade every year should have a better deal, if that's regulated down to access to all of K12U because they bought it, when someone else like me is jumping from an earlier version to K13U, then so be it.

Grant Pettigrew wrote: Fri Sep 18, 2020 10:34 pm Hello, sorry if this point has been mentioned before, but I find this a really bizarre commercial approach...

For the past couple of weeks you have only been able to buy Komplete 13 on the NI website - you can no longer buy Komplete 12. I purchased Komplete 13 (knowing that the “release date” was 1st October) thinking that SURELY you would be able to download the currently available component products of 13 (which are not charging when 13 is released on 1st October), but you can’t ! You need to wait until 1st October. So I am stuck now and can’t even download the current version of Kontakt etc. I find this very odd.

I am sure this must have put people off buying any Komplete bundle for the whole of September - what a strange decision from NI given that this must be seriously impacting their cash flow ?
I don’t know that it put anyone off of buying a Komplete bundle. You bought one correct? And there are people like myself buying 12 bundle upgrades this month so we can get 13 for free. There are quite a few developers who do something like this, mainly to keep people who bought something within a period of time of the latest release, from complaining about missing the latest release which is often the same price to purchase. I’ve twice gotten a Cubase upgrade because I bought an upgrade within a month or two of the next release, and they never advertise it either.

I get you are disappointed you can’t download stuff right while those who bought a 12 bundle can, but honestly, it is less than 2 weeks and you are in business. Is it really worth any bad feelings? You are about to have more content than most people can honestly use.

"COMING SOON KOMPLETE 13 lands October 1 PRE-ORDER NOW!"

With the clear statement above i don't get how someone could think that he can use parts of the bundle before october the 1st. Didn't bought 12, didn't bought a single product just pre-ordered 13.

In any case why not contacting support prior buying? Especially with the clear statement above.
