And like others keep saying: with MPE capable keyboards readily available via Roli, Sensel, and others, along with something like Hyrdrasynth, there's probably never been a better time to emulate a CS-80. There's lots of affordable options out there today.mholloway wrote: Tue Oct 13, 2020 8:51 pmAs has been discussed in here already by others, a CS-80 plugin, without a corresponding keyboard controller allowing Polyphonic Aftertouch and a Ribbon Controller, isn't really a CS-80...Arashi wrote: Tue Oct 13, 2020 8:33 pm I’m hoping he’s been working on the world’s first actually-good CS-80 emulation.
Vangelis probably loved it because of its dynamic performance capabilities more than the raw sound of its oscs (bog standard yamaha basics) or its filter -- Dave Spiers himself notes in his lengthy CS-80 youtube documentary video that the CS-80 filter is nothing much to write home about, just a standard fare 12-pole with no self-oscillation.
What the CS-80 did have is the ultra-rare Polyphonic Aftertouch, a ribbon controller, and all kinds of dynamics switches (e.g. many related to velocity > filter and amplitude and other parameter) all geared toward performance, exclusively.
It was a monster synth designed for dynamic playing. Which was, of course, exactly what Vangelis was all about.
Take that synth -- or even, let's say, a perfect VST emulation of its 'sound' -- and pair it with a standard MIDI controller...... that's not a CS-80, and certainly not the 'world's first actually good' one you're looking for.
Which is why I'm really hoping they do a 2600 instead....
Gforce Software, something new is on its way...

ME80 sounds great and is MPE compatible. Plays nice on my seaboard rise.Funkybot's Evil Twin wrote: Tue Oct 13, 2020 8:58 pmAnd like others keep saying: with MPE capable keyboards readily available via Roli, Sensel, and others, along with something like Hyrdrasynth, there's probably never been a better time to emulate a CS-80. Put me down as not liking these new-fangled vertical-scrolling sites, but then I'm old and started doing web design in the 90s (when you had to worry about how many kB each gif was...). I fled to the back-end years ago and prefer working on databases, not as frenetic
Not to mention, what's a "manufacturer website" anymore anyways, other than a place to maybe make a purchase or get the manual. I get most info from soundcloud, youtube etc and forums like this one! Hopefully the new website is not the reason for "excitement"....
All that said, if they are coming out with something new, great. They make good stuff.

Websites are super important for brand identity. Some young producers are going to hear about Gforce for the first time ever when they launch their new synth(s), assuming that's what's actually happening here, and when they land on the new website they will get the impression of a modern company that is actively developing new plugins, rather than some relic from the 90s that may or may not ever update their software again.

Fair enough, it certainly doesn't hurt to have a newer site that's sticking with trends--and no pleasing everyone
. It is a nice-looking site and professional. No "under construction" gifs to be seen! (Sadly I remember our team actually looking for those along with various gif dividers...). Anyway enough with "websites by dinos", on to synth news!

Ya agreed! Psyched to find out about these new synths, Gforce emulations are sick. Right up there with Synapse and u-he for my money.

The prices of the synths seems to be a bit lower. On the web.archive copy from december, impOSCar2, minimonsta and oddity are £116.66 excluding VAT each, and now they are £99.99 each.
