And he obviously didn't have to ruin the GUI's in order to make them look less similar to the original, the way Arturia had to with their Jupiter 8 emulation.

You can emulate any gear you want, as long as you don't improperly use any trademarks/trade dress. Dozens of Roland emulations out there. From what I recall, a few had to change up some GUI's for being too close to the originals (trade dress) but they continue to be sold. Thinking specifically D16 where their original GUI's were much closes to the x0x boxes and Arturia. API is notorious for going after any company using their trademarked API-style knobs be it hardware or software.

And the companies have to do it: if they don't enforce their trademarks, they can literally lose them.

What is API?

unless it's a Roland synth with Persing patches in it. then the "Night on the bald mountain" intro will kick in.

The ob 12 was nothing special , it was a mediocre va , not even made by oberheim ( Gibson ,viscount iirc)
p.s. you're aware the ob-12 was digital ?

Yes, I know, but I don't care. It sounded good judging from that video, that's all that matters to me. No voltage-controlled chauvinism here :hihi:

They're kind of like the American version of Neve. Consoles, preamps, EQs, compressors... Sound great, used on a ton of records since the 70s. Look up their gear, they use a very distinctive knob design.

These knobs? They seem to appear on all of their products on image search...

Yes.
I'm not a musician, but I've designed sounds that others use to make music. http://soundcloud.com/obsidiananvil

The brass from 4:00 and pad from 10:00 on sound very good to me, despite the clipping :hihi:
Or maybe they could make their own version of the Matrix 12. I know Arturia has one already but it would be great to see/hear a GForce version.

From what I have read, the Matrix 12 didn't sound as good as earlier Oberheims, but impressed with modulation options instead.
Maybe that's why the Arturia emulation is said to be one of their best soft synths. It's more about getting the routing right, not a special filter sound.

Here's a video demo, though some parts sound like the audio is clipping:

Sounds pretty good to me. Not a fan of american synths but still
