I am an MBA student currently working on understanding the Music production industry and analyzing the trends in VST Plugin Usage.

Did the survey. Not sure what you're trying to get at with the "what problem are you trying to solve with purchasing VSTs" question. Unless I'm looking at a very specialized plugin for a specific issue I'm having, it's not generally a "problem" so much as it is just making music/processing audio?

For me it could be “convincing analog saturation,” or “zero latency tape saturation,” or “natural sounding reverb” or “ I’m lazy and don’t want to use the complicated tools that I have so I’ll spend more money on something that does the same thing but faster.” (That last one is from a friend.)
