Sorry to hear it hasn’t worked out for you, Mike! I suspect my standards may be quite a bit lower than yours. I’m mostly amazed when I plug it in and I’m all “wow, that sounds just like a geetar!!!”
What kind of LP copy did you get?

I was into getting a JTV for ethnic stuff - if there were any - think bouzoki and all sorts ethnic.
Nice with more flavours to choose from.
These things you don't use all the time is perfect for this solution, I think.
But they could not promise this would happend, and not that it would be processing power in current gen computer inside to extend further with firmware update. It's only so much you can fit into an embedded computer.
And as everything computer, once a new generation the old ones are worth nothing.
I thought maybe getting a us made JTV to get a more solid instrument as well.
But they could not guarantee next gen computer would fit into current gen instrument.
So just fell through the cracks....

Always loved the concept, have the original one and one of the Yamaha standard ones. My ears don't pick up what Mike is saying but that may be because of different ears and different standards. Have a bunch of guitars, both acoutic and electric, but the Variax and a Hagström Superswede are the ones within reach from my studio chair. As far as I remember a Variax has been there since I got the first one.

It may entirely be an isolated issue with my Yamaha Variax. I suspect the piezo contacts are too high. This is something that can't be changed by lowering the string volume in workbench. If the signal is too hot coming in it can cause clipping.
All that being said... I like the action/feel of the neck.

..and on that I'd absolutely agree. Despite my fat fingers and playing a lot of 12 string and bass VI, I always find the Standard a really nice guitar to play despite the narrow neck width (for me..). Often pick it up just to idly strum without it plugged in at night, in preference to other electrics.tapper mike wrote: ↑Sun Oct 25, 2020 9:25 pm
