I remember Blows Against the Empire, a pretty different album, not so commercial to say the least. This was some vinyl I wore out (I was a big acidhead those days). My chief memory 50 yrs later is of the pedal steel and the expansive atmo that invoked.

Yes, pedal steel or slide in general can be very trippy in the right hands.
I went through a big mushroom phase (that lasted about 7 years) and Ry Cooder’s Southern Comfort soundtrack was played a lot.

They played my student union, did one song for 40 minutes with strobes on all through, singer puked on the stage (think they were all tripping) then at the end they smashed all their equipment.
